Uncle Leo

Overview

Uncle Leo is the one Super Mutant other than Fawkes that will be non-hostile to the Lone Wanderer in Fallout 3. He has no recollection of who he was before his FEV caused mutation. He was cast out by the other Super Mutants, unlike Fawkes who they forced into a locked vault room to watch out of curiosity and cruelty, when they found out about his higher intelligence as well as his pacifism. Ever since then he has wandered the Capital Wasteland enjoying small things and trying to help people. Uncle Leo is unarmed and has nothing in his inventory except for a Dirty Pre-War Businesswear. He will avoid enemies if he sees them and never initiates a fight but he will fight to defend himself.

First Encounter

The first time the player meets Uncle Leo he will be unhostile and will have an option to talk to him. If you talk to him he will say how surprised he is that the player hasn't tried to kill him. One dialogue choice available is to essentially rob him at gun point, however he willingly gives the player a Dirty Pre-War Bussinesswear, saying that he wishes he could give more. Several of the lines he says are references to Buddhist philosophy. He can also tell the player vague memories about becoming a Super Mutant. He will talk about a "cold, dark, metal place" which is actually Vault 87.

Second Encounter

If you meet Uncle Leo a second time he will tell you about how he hurt his leg when he fell into a cave. It turns out the cave was actually an abandoned basement filled with Purified Water. When he was wandering with the water he was attacked by a group of people and he had to abandon the water. After telling you his story he will offer another Dirty Pre-War Bussinesswear that he found. If you have Fawkes following you the second time you meet Uncle Leo then he will be surprised to meet another Super Mutant like himself.
