Still getting the hang of the game, but I'm slowly killing things and minging and building. Is anyone else in it? Never played minecraft, but it seems it's like a minecraft type of game?

It's really quite different to something like minecraft. The minecraft-like parts are just collecting resources. The main objective of the game is to build up a town, by constructing buildings and rescuing people.

So far I think the game seems fine, but there needs to be a bit more to it. I like the idea of collectively building the town, with different players specialising in different things to try and get it done, but it seems like there's a lot of grind and not much actual game.

I've been working on a town of my own since Friday and it's become a bit of a thing to handle with mostly only me. Can anyone come to BAZNAKOK to help?

@golguin: I'm here to help! (PSN same as GB id).

Game is really fun to play so far, but fun in a strange way. Feels like the kinda fun I derived from farming in runescape.

Wow, I don't think I have ever seen so many disclaimers at the start of a game.

You can buy two from a dude standing near the bus stop. I think you have to talk to him twice before he mentions it?

You might have already figured it out, but you buy licences from the black market or from a police walking around. You may need to buy a thing from the store first to activate it.

To make a house you use your ticket thing with Square and then place it like a building. I didn't figure that one out till Saturday when I noticed people had names attached to houses.

    Also, there's a tutorial computer?

A general huge issue I've found with the game became glaringly apparent. The town I call home is constantly destroyed every time I log off. I come back in to find all the stuff I've built completely gone. There is literally no way to making meaningful progression with just a few people. I imagine a large town has the opposite problem with people blowing stuff up on purpose and using resources for whatever random buildings.

@golguin: I hope theres fewer towns in the full release as youre right, a small town can struggle to get anything done. Also I hope they change it so other players dont phase out so much. I wanted to help another player mine a tunnel in the dark and we had a light plant to help us, but we kept phasing in and out and if one of us took up the light we could phase out with it, leaving the other guy stuck in darkness.

Seems real neat. I'm totally lost though. I get the concept but would like a better tutorial. They need to show you the shops and stuff without being thrown into a town with a random layout. Explain everything, then throw me into a town.

I hope I can make a town with only my friends. I don't want to share resources with random assholes, they don't share my vision! With no good way to communicate with randoms, I see it becoming frustrating trying to coordinate any projects or character builds.

I gave Neogaf town a visit and having like 20+ people in town allowed stuff to go by more efficiently. I was able to blow up and kill the monsters without constantly worrying about power and wood consumption at the same time.

Apparently people have been trying to destroy the town in various ways so there needs to be more anti grief methods or simply have private towns that pause when no one is there.

The content in the game seems a bit limited, hopefully they are just giving us a small taste of the full game in the beta but if not I have my worries.

From what I have experienced all of the islands have set internal layouts, so if I see that "red face" island I know exactly where all of the goodies are inside it and how to get to them. Almost all of the monsters I see don't really drop anything of value, (crystals are not used to craft that much,) and the high frequency of the monster attacks means you usually just waste your most precious resource (metal) on ammo to defend your town but never get anything from defeating it worth the resources you wasted. a lot of the time it's better to just let the monster walk through the town and just repair everything in his wake, (you'll waste wood but that's a renewable resource).

The progression just doesn't feel worth it either considering A. there is no incentive for me to stick with a town and upgrade it since I can just go to a more developed town and get the cool upgraded stuff without having to work for it, and B. anyone could destroy the town or waste/ steal it's resource and there is nothing I can do about it. I can't tell him to stop, I can't kill him because half the time he is invisible, and I can't prevent him from doing it. (there is a "trap" that is supposed to work on miscreants but it's not effective.)

Hopefully there is content in the final game that resolves these issues.

I did not get this game at all. Seems like there should be a bit more explanation as to what I'm supposed to do in town, as mentioned by ThatOneDudeNick. I'm on the horn with the beak-nosed tutorial guy and a big a$$ bug comes and kills me. Lots of bugs flying around trying to kill me. The town I ended up in seemed very random. Thought I was supposed to have a house? How can I tell which one is mine? They all look the same. The bus also only took me from one bus stop in the town to the other. Never got back out to the VOID for mining.

I get that it's similar to Minecraft but something is missing. I was wandering around the town only with "Huh, what?" as my main response. Also, the mini games aren't making me happy either. Took me 4-5 tries to figure out how to rebuild a burning structure. For me, not very intuitive.

Looks great, though. Love the art style, lighting, all of that.
