Overview
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch on October 20, 2023.
A successor to the New Super Mario Bros. series, Super Mario Bros. Wonder brings Mario and his friends to the Flower Kingdom, where Bowser has used the Wonder Flower to merge with the Flower Castle and imprison the native Poplins. Assisted by Prince Florian and talking flowers, it's up to the titular Mario (along his brother Luigi, princesses Peach and Daisy, some Toads, some Yoshis, and Nabbit) to collect the Royal Seeds and free the Poplins from their prisons.
In addition to new power-ups (including a new elephant transformation), the game is known for its Wonder Flower system, in which collecting one dramatically alters the level with wondrous and bizarre effects. It is also known for its badge system (which grant different perks) and both local and online multiplayer (the latter of which uses ghosts that can aid other players).
The game is also known for being the first game where Mario and Luigi are voiced by Kevin Afghani, after long-time voice actor Charles Martinet retired from the role.
Characters
The following characters are unique in that they take cannot transform with power-ups, and cannot take damage from colliding with enemies and other hazards. In addition, Yoshis can flutter-jump and use their tongues to grab and spit objects as projectiles, and other players can ride on Yoshis' backs.
