The ability to grab your opponent mid-air and throw him once you have your hand on him.
Also referred to as block damage, chipping takes place when characters take damage even when blocking. Most commonly associated with fighting games.
Typically found in fighting games, combos are a series of strung-together moves.
From a new generation of fighting games, most notably Street Fighter IV, the comeback mechanic allows characters with low health to activate a powerful move or mode.
In 2D fighting games, a command grab is a character-unique grab that is triggered by performing a special move command. It is the primary weapon of a "grappler" character.
A grappler is a combatant in a fighting game whose best attack strategies usually revolve around throwing their opponents around the stage.
Special/Super moves are similar inputs as auto-combos. all that requires that is required is holding down the button or use any move in one button.
A meter mostly used in fighting games that fills up when a character is hit or deals damage, once it is full it can be triggered to make the player's attacks more powerful for a moment.
Akuma's signature super move in the Street Fighter series.
Featured mainly in fighting games, special attacks usually require more than just pressing a button to activate. They are usually unique or at least varied between characters.
In fighting games, some characters have special moves that are counterattacks. In order for the attack to work, the player must enter the proper command and then allow for the opponent to strike when the player's character is in the move's "wait" position.
Commonly found in fighting games, a super meter increases when either a character takes or gives damage (depending on the game). There are many variations on the super meter, depending on the franchise or game.
When a character in a game unleashes their true power and 'levels up' in a sense. Examples are super sonic, super saiyan, no more heroes, mushrooms in mario, devil trigger... etc.
A combo move in fighting games that 1) requires a specific button combination to activate while combo-ing & 2) delivers a special animation associated with character or environment. Depending on game, might involve a gauge or act as a finishing move.
