Found a review in a Wii magazine I bought today. It's the first review I've seen for the game, I think?
The review begins with how tired everyone is of Sonic games that aren't Sonic games, and how surprised they were that "& the Black Knight" is actually pretty much old-school sonic.
- It's a linear, fast paced action-platformer, only set in middle-ages
- Sonic characters sadly make appearances, and take on certain "roles" (i.e. Shadow is Lancelot etc.)
- There are QTE
- straight-up running through the fast-paced levels and collecting rings, no weird inbetweens like the werehog. The only new thing is...
- ..weapons. Sonic wields a sword that is controlled via waggle. Rings can be used to purchase upgrades. The sword can also be used to perform certain motions, like climbing walls
- High difficulty
- several objectives for each level
- at times frustrating level design and camera
- impressive effects-engine
- if you're just running through each level as fast you can, the game is extremely short (<3h)
They praised the fact that its basically an old-school Sonic game and that the sword-controls are enjoyable. They criticised the high count of enemies and the usual sonic-related stuff (like having to learn parts of the levels by heart)

Sonic and the Black Knight
Game » consists of 4 releases. Released Mar 10, 2009
The titular hedgehog traverses through another ancient tale, this time in a sword-clashing adventure set in the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
Sonic & The Black Knight Review (surprisingly good)
"Finally a Sonic game that will be enjoyable, has been a while. "I've found the last couple of Sonic games to be enjoyable. There are far too many game snobs that are quick to dismiss a game without actually playing it. Obviously, Sonic will never relive his former glory. Gamers who don't realize this have unrealistic expectations about the franchise.

"I am glad it is not horrible, but, honestly, I have never heard of that magazine so I don't know how much I can rely on it. I am probably not going to buy it anyway."
Since its a "decent" Sonic I would still consider it as a purchase if it got cheap. It the kind of thing I like to have laying around when we have friends and family over with kids. They lap up this kind of stuff. And I'll just keep sticking to my old Sonic classics. I'll wait until I hear more about from other sources too before I lean either way.
Well, that review does sound pretty legit of a typical Wii Sonic Game. I do agree with Sega trying to take a somewhat new approach to sonic, but I disagree with some of the routes that they've taken so far. They do need to have a sonic game primarly focused on a lot of the old aspects, but add something new that is welcoming and won't change the originality of the game. I will probably just rent Sonic & The Black Knight.
I'm assuming "The Black Knight" in question is Martin Lawrence?
"I'm assuming "The Black Knight" in question is Martin Lawrence?"Ha Ha. At this point in the career of both Lawrence and Sonic, it wouldnt bloody suprise me.
You know, ever since Sonic Adventure critics have always disliked sonic. But here's the thing, I like Sonic Adventure and so do the fans. The only Sonic game that people would agree with the critics about being a shitty Sonic game is Sonic 06.
What magazine did this come from? The only reviews I've been able to find came from Nintendo Power, IGN, Famitsu, and GAJ-IT.

Anyways I really hated Sonic & The Secret Rings and was quick to judge this one but Ive read a few things like what the topic creator mentions and who knows, I might try this one out.
