Great quick look. The original was one of the funniest and most unique experiences I've had with games; I can't wait to see the 'new content'.

Cool change. I'm not sure why "script" is such a dirty word for some people.

This is so good, the closer giantbomb gets to this kind of authored content the better, not that casual crew isn't great, but with the loss of everyone in the same room, this is an amazing way to go

Huh! This was such a good Quick Look! Such a refreshing and interesting twist on the format. I'm sure this takes a lot more work and a lot more editing, but totally worth it.

Though I am now deeply suspicious that there's a hidden meaning behind the answers to the questions..

Quick Look? This video is less than 10 minutes long. What about that says "Quick Look"???

From the Official Giant Bomb Style Guide and Production Manual:

"

Sec 3. (ii,d) The minimum length for a Giant Bomb Quick Look is one hour and thirty (30) minutes.

Sec 3. (ii,e) Quick Look content must contain at least two non-game-related anecdotal tangents.

Sec 4. (ix,a) Quick Looks must not contain any post-production embellishments. This includes but is not limited to: Motion Graphics, Editing, Lower Thirds, Additional Dialog Recording, or evidence of any other work product which can be construed as "Effort". (For full definition of 'Effort' please see Section 12, Appendix B of your Official Giant Bomb Style Guide and Production Manual.)

"

This is a really good video. But it ain't no Quick Look. Lots to learn Ms. O'Brien. Lots to learn...

----

Edit: because someone thought this sounded mean I feel like I have to say I do not intend for it to be mean. I was just kinda running with the Stanley Parable narrator joke.I think this QL is fantastic.

This was great! Both entertaining and informative. This is also the first video in years that’s convinced me to buy a game I previously had no interest in playing.

People might throw tomatoes at me, but this is probably what more quick looks should be like. In 2009, getting a couple people in a room to give some offhand commentary about a game was a bit more rare. The novelty of "stripped down" and "off the cuff" coverage was refreshing. Now it's incredibly common. I could hop on Twitch and make Quick Looks to my heart's content. Giant Bomb is staffed by very smart and insightful people, and I appreciate the site most these days when they put a lot of time and effort into "deep dives" or "quick dives" like this. Even though you could find something like this on Youtube too, I think the staff here are able to bring a more mature, ethical, and evenly-considered perspective on this stuff than a lot of the random 20 year olds who are trying to get Youtube channels off the ground (no offense to anyone who this description might fit). Anyway, I enjoyed it. Here's to a return of "Hot Takeouts."

@lab392:

Well put! I'm not opposed to the traditional quick look format, but I definitely don't engage with it like I used to, so this was a refreshing change of pace for me.

I think both of these comments together are exactly right. It's impossible to have the same group chemistry when you're doing everything remotely. Given this, a larger focus on more scripted stuff seems to make some sense, until and unless the notion of staff being in the same room together can be reclaimed. I'm not saying group QLs should go away completely or anything, but the relative ratio of scripted vs off-the-cuff content could stand to be adjusted.

I too think this was great.

Historic tidbit for the people who haven't been here since the start: most of the early GB quick looks were sub-20 minutes long with some of them under 10 minutes. It took until around 2012-2013 for quick looks to regularly be more than a half hour long.

As great as this is, I’m not sure this is a good model for all Quick Looks, since it seems much more time and editing intensive than the standard format and there’s only so many hours in the week, but I think it’s a great argument for playing with the format and applying it differently to different games when possible. This plays well with the tone of the game and lets the humour shine through without it being overshadowed by the discussion. I would definitely love to see the team experiment with the style of the quick looks more in this vein, if not necessarily in this exact way every time (for example, I remember liking Brad’s Quick Look for TLOU2 where it consisted of different moments from across his play through so he could reflect on how his thoughts on the game had changed over time).

I think after 10 years of giant bomb I have been ruined on scripted and edited media. I was listening to a podcast the other day and could tell every time there was an edit. It was a tight 22 minutes. It felt wrong.

Not a knock against this at all, I'm just not used to it anymore.

Agreed, pretty much my thoughts exactly. I really liked this one, as it was short, to the point, fit the subject and answered just about everything i needed to know about this new edition of, uh… "StanPara".
