I just saw the thumbnail and was expecting the new Truck Simulator expansion.

@loktarogar: I just quit out of Truck Simulator and opened my browser to see this and thought the same thing. I feel a little let down.

I'm curious what a regular CoD player who doesn't get caught up in hype thinks.

Multiplayer seems worse than CoD WW2 to me, but I never play the multiplayer past level 20 or so, and the lack of single player might be making me up my standards.

Huh, kinda surprised by how poor this looks visually. Call of Duty WWII was fairly good looking, and as I recall both Black Ops II and Advanced Warfare were decent looking for their time (though they certainly never were comparable to Battlefield or Crysis), but this straight up looks like the PS3 era games. Maybe they've scaled down on the visual fidelity in order to do the larger map for the Battle Royale mode, but keep those reduced visuals on the smaller maps too?

I can appreciate the humor in aiming for the crotch every time but that's why you're losing the 1v1's bruh

I haven't played CoD multiplayer since MW2 and it seems nothing significant has changed whatsoever.

Saying acronyms/abbreviations out loud like G2G or even OMG is odd to my ear as well because of the number of syllables & the time it takes to say them.

I've played every CoD since the PC days. I played MW online a lot, BLOPs a lot online, and then after that I kind of bounced off every iteration until WWII. WWII was in my mind the return to form I wanted, it was clear, it was simple, it was very easy to understand what was happening and why, etc. I think I ended up only 2 prestiges away from Master prestige when it was all said and done.

My biggest issue with the CoD's after the first BLOPs is they became overloaded in gimmicks and it became a lot to manage. There was wall running, and abilities, and all sorts of crazy shit I couldn't keep track of. I think this game has a bit of that but not as much as something like Advanced Warfare or Infinite.

My biggest grievance with the game is that they've gone the Overwatch route of making "specialists" usable by only one person. The issue is that I've really only found two or three specialists that have abilities that make the game fun, the others have support abilities which as you can probably imagine isn't always well used in a game like CoD. I also haven't experienced it yet, but knowing the CoD community I feel like it's only a matter of time before I seem some straight vitriol for "not using a character right" or "not giving it up".

Overall it's fun game, but WWII did a ton of things right was one of the best CoD's in ages. I'll never understand Jeff's disgust with it.

@thepotatoman: I am exactly that player, and I'm pretty happy with the game. I really enjoyed WWII, but the guns weren't exactly balanced, and this game seems to have improved on that significantly. It's not a reinvention of the wheel by any means, but I like the changes they've implemented and think thy all work pretty well. I view my yearly purchase of CoD as similar to people who buy Madden etc. every year. I like the formula for the most part and enjoy the small shake-ups.

The single player story tutorial mode is shiiiiiiiit and I kinda want more of that story because it looks like the kind of shittt CoD story I'd enjoy

I got it via Redbox so I didn’t spend too much time in multiplayer, I can say my man with the dog is WAY over powered, even I kick ass with him.

For my tastes, Blackout is easily the best BR I've played thus far. A really nice balance between the realistic and sometimes cumbersome mechanics of PUBG and the cartoonish nature of Fortnite.

Welp. I watched exactly 10 minutes of this game and it seems like something I absoluletly do not want. Waiting for Battlefield to get my shooter fix.

Really Jeff, you should play with headphones on, especially on Blackout. I could hear clearly where enemies were running and shooting and they still got the drop on you.

Two words: Old guns.

@wvueers: Just so you're aware, there are modes that allow multiple players to use the same specialist (at least there was during beta not sure if it still exists.).

I am loving BLOPS 4, best COD in my opinion since MW2. For the record, I bounced off very fast from WWII, did not like the multiplayer at all (and the campaign was absolute unoriginal trash).

I was tempted by this, but the lack of rewards for the Blackout mode if you don't place highly is kind of offputting. There's no chance in hell I'd ever be good at it. If they patch in some kind of reward system for those of us out there largely making for target practice for everyone else, I'll probably snatch it up. Looks really fun.

Damn, would have been cool if that helicopter trick worked.

Matchmaking needs more care and attention, and has never received it. Much like Jeff, I found myself getting throw into games that are completely one-sided.

I'm not a game developer, but surely looking at a players stats and matching them into a lobby with other players with similar stats isn't impossible.

I was very close to purchasing this game just for the Blackout mode, as I have no interest in traditional MP or Zombies, but thanks to this video I decided to skip it, as the progression looks very bland and the map actually pretty small. Not worth the price, I'll wait for Battlefield, where I always have a ton of fun with all game modes.

I wish PUBG was playable on Xbox, in First Person mode.

@awkwardloser: hahaha the tutorial mode is 5 minutes of bad jokes and then a FULL multiplayer match against bots. I appreciate dumb but I only did the Ajax one and couldn't stomach anymore. Really enjoying the rest of game but wooof I am glad they canned the single player if that was the direction they were going.

That first game, Jeff's performance was about on par with how all of my Call of Duty multiplayer games go. And that's precisely why I've never enjoyed CoD beyond the campaign and, when I managed to rope my brother into it, the Special Ops mode. (I'm consistently middle, if not top tier in Halo and Battlefield multiplayer - and I'm only an occasional player, at best - but I just never seem to find a groove with CoD.)

BOBO (let's make that happen) seems...interesting. Seems to play somewhat faster than PUBG. Wonder if that was just how Jeff was playing, if it's just the ingrained play style to a CoD game, if it's the limited amount of gear to pick through, or what. And I'm probably alone in this, but I like that they threw zombies onto the map. Just a pity they didn't lean into that more by having a variety of non-player/AI enemies roaming the map, like packs of wild dogs (or reskin the dogs to look like wolves or coyotes) and the odd glitched out robot from Black Ops III. Maybe throw in an Area 51 that had those aliens from the Extinction mode running loose. Or Red Dead Redemption it up a bit and throw in some cougars and the odd bear.

That would actually make the mode way more interesting to me. It'd be harder for players to camp, since there would always be the possibility of something else jumping them, and it'd force players to make some hard choices about whether to potentially give away their position with gunfire or just run, possibly right into another player.

Mostly, I just like the idea of having dangerous wild animals in a battle royale game because I want the developers to make the dropped in supply crates occasionally contain a bear that mauls whoever goes to open it. Like, whenever a player comes to within a certain distance, the crate just explodes into flinders and there's a giant bear on top of the player just savaging the shit out of them. And make one of the melee weapons in the game just a fucking brick, because that's probably as close as we're ever going to get to a Condemned 3.

@cursethesemetalhands: Although the ship has long since sailed (and then sunk with all hands lost), last gen's Operation: Racoon City did this pretty well, with Resident-Evil zombies acting as a "wild card" roaming threat that could suddenly blunder into a firefight between the two opposing teams. There were even mechanics that allowed players to "bait" the zombies into attacking the enemy team.

I know a lot of Duders/Duderettes treat that game as if were the video-game equivalent of a surprise colonoscopy, but it had some fun moments.

I don't know why, but I always really love watching Jeff play some Call of Duty.

This looks pretty impressive & smooth. You can tell that they put a lot of work into that battle royale mode. Whether it's the best mode out there, probably not. But it does look extremely smooth.

@dasakamov: I really wanted to like that game - the idea of a more action-oriented Resident Evil sounded promising - but, sadly, I just wasn't a fan of how Operation Raccoon City controlled. Though, I wasn't much of a SOCOM fan, so I think Slant Six might not have been the best choice of developers.

If the battle royale genre remains popular though, I'm sure someone will take the idea of random, wandering AI enemies and really push that angle. (It seems like that might be the direction Fear the Wolves wants to delve into, while also trying to milk S.T.A.L.K.E.R. nostalgia.)

You could say this about any COD game since MW1 imo. They're just smooth polished games. And that's what excites me about the BR mode, I didn't play the beta but the idea of the smooth COD gameplay with the survival aspect of BRs sounds and looks really nice. Having no interest in COD normal modes myself this may eventually draw me to the game when it's on sale or if they release a BR only mode one day.

@thepotatoman: I’m a regular and I just couldn’t get into WWII, it was too back to basics. I didn’t like IW multiplayer either, the maps on that were too small and the whole “there’s always someone behind you” thing was even more of a problem than usual. This is the most I’ve been into a CoD since Blops 3 which I was very into. I really like the whole class thing and I think they did a good job with the maps. My one big gripe is that they got rid of the jet packs and wallrunning, that’s a big backwards step IMO.

@fisk0: Maybe it doesn’t translate well into video or maybe PC just looks better than PS4 but I think the game looks quite good. Not only that but it’s the most well optimized version they’ve had in years. It’s running better for me than Black Ops 3 on the same hardware and it certainly looks better. I think Blackout really made them have to work hard on the engine.

I miss Advanced Warfare..... and Titanfall 2.
