Quick Look: Star Wars: Battlefront

That doesn't "ruin" anything. People probably won't even notice, and even then, the game will bring other players in to replace those that drop out. It isn't a big deal unless you're trying to turn it into one.

This is one of the most least content-relevant, but most amazing quicklooks ever.

It's weird that Dan likes Star Wars.

As for Boba Fett, lady at work today was just telling us about her husband getting a new tattoo of his logo (I guess there's a logo). His shoulder is apparently reserved for all Boba Fett stuff, and she seemed kinda into it. *shrugs*

This is a fun game, but it does seem like just the start of something bigger. Hopefully this sells really well and they put out a game that reaches its full potential in a few years. Like what Bad Company 2 did on the multiplayer front. And add Amy Hennig's campaign to it.

I'm not sure why Dan hates emotes so much, sure they're dumb, but wrestling is basically just emotes made into a 'sport'.

Don't give a fuck about the game but the banter in this quick look was great. Jeff and Dan are becoming my favourite duo.

Deck contains an emote. That's so 2015.

A Kalashnikov variant without the auto-sear is still a Kalashnikov (and legal in California with a magazine lock). There isn't really a good shorthand to differentiate between those that are full auto and those that aren't, so most people just call them all an ak or ak-47.

That said, Wal-Mart probably is selling lookalikes that are just .22 rifles or something.

It's a damn shame this game doesn't have any Clone Wars content. Having all the Phase 2 clone armor variants as costume choices would have been awesome and planets like Felucia, Kamino, Dathomir and Serreno would have looked amazing in this engine. The inevitable Cloud City maps will no doubt be visually stunning.

It's kinda weird seeing all these guns when you know and recognize the real guns

I was hoping this would be good enough to get the first time it was on a big sale. I'm still not sure either way, really.

its not that much of a disadvantage considering how ridiculously easy the game is. i've only played in first person and regularly get 20-35 kills a match.

Two minutes in and I already know this isn't the starwars game for me. A spaceballs character pack fitting in with the rest of it and some crazy name killing luke skywalker. Nope I'm out. I don't take StarWars as seriously as I take Star Trek but more seriously than this. @ilikepopcans I wouldn't expect @danryckert to show remorse here I expect people pop in and out of these maps all the time. They certainly seemed to in the bets stuff they showed before or do people take the trying for team wins actually seriously? This would seem silly as there doesn't seem to be any coordination I mean this isn't Arma...@amyggen I can say that here in North Carolina they certainly sell all kind of guns and that some people carrry openly in WalMart. It makes me feel safe until I realize I am in WalMart and I look closer at the people surrounding me..

@danryckert if you are looking for a cool starwars campaign game you should check out the old republic mmo. You can basically play it as a single player campaign (especially now) but it is more fun with other people especially if you get cool roleplayers (I have a great rp guild and I would love to rp with you) it doesn't look as good as this (this looks freaking incredible) but it is close especially in the single player ship stuff.

Game looks and sounds great (that dark ice is sexy), but the gunplay does nothing for me. It's a shame I can't just, like, walk around Star Wars environments of this fidelity.

In VR, maybe.

With force powers.

It should really be as simple as saying it's a k-47 since you remove the A which stands for automatic (in Russian). Not sure if the manufacturer itself thought that far.

I want to want this more than I actually want it.

Dan throwing a grenade at Darth Vader's face at 12:45 was pretty great.

This game is exactly what I thought it was going to be, for better and worse. I'm buying it on sheer nostalgia knowing full well what it is and isn't.

Also, Rebel Assault and Rebel Assault II were great games.

I know it's kind of nonsensical but the vehicles being a pick up turns me off from this.

Goddamn this game is gorgeous.

This definitely feels like the first entry in a franchise. Build a solid foundation and then expand the content in the sequel. I know it's really the third entry in this case, but I would bet that in two years for Episode 8 we get Battlefront 4 and it has all the things people were wanting in this version.

While the lack of content sucks, I think it's better for them to nail the core gameplay the first time around and then layer on new mechanics and modes for the sequel. I'm definitely looking forward to that game.

Also, impressive anti-aliasing in place for this being a 720p game on Xbox One. I remember watching the quick look for Hardline and thinking how awful the aliasing was in that version of that game. Impressive step up in image quality from that standpoint.

@dudeglove: That's just like, your opinion, man! I think Spaceballs is still incredibly funny. Unless movies like Star Wars and Planet of the Apes become unknown, I don't really see the humor aging out, either.

e: And even if the referential stuff loses power over time, the physical and situational gags are timeless and many and some of Mel Brooks' best work.

As someone who claimed that Force Awakens is your most anticipated movie this year and since Nolan's Dark Knight on that Film & 40s Red October "commentary track" podcast, you sure need to be better at Star Wars terminology, Ryckert. Those are Snow Speeders, not A-Wings.

Damn. I was hoping this would have the depth of a full Battlefield game. I had hopd for a return to form, but I guess EA want to grind the 'Battlefield' brand into the dirt, You'd figure the atrocity that was Hardline would have woken them up to not skimmping...guess not.

The fact that I wanted to correct Dan about his mistake between an A-Wing and a Snow Speeder made me legitimately sad.

Calling it, this game becomes Jeff's gateway drug in to Star Wars.

This is a game for star wars fans. Mindless entertainment Star Wars fantasy fulfillment. Nothing more. Nothing less.....and I love it....

That X-Wing mission looked incredible. I want more of that, lots more of that.

I'm with Jeff on regards to Star Wars, but not with laser swords, laser swords are awesome.

Great set dressing, shame about the lack of game behind it.
