"Tyre."

Ugh.

EDIT: @jeff You're not alone with the "Grand Pricks" thing. My Dad bought a Pontiac Grand Prix and I mispronounced it in front of all his guy friends in the garage and it's still a cringe worthy embarrassing moment I think about even though I was like 8 years old and didn't know any fucking better.

You can tell Drew has studied so much more F1 it's awesome to hear! The classic mode looks really cool in this game. Also Suzuka this weekend, one of my favorite tracks.

Oh man... drew should have his own premium show... Weekly racing or something. Where he just plays iRacing or this or other racing games and just shares his knowledge

Lovin' the Drew Quick Looks and an insight into these crazy simulators.

It's funny; when I was in Monaco, walking around the roads where the track is, I kinda just ignorantly flipped off the whole thing; "yeah that hairpin turn looks pretty wild, whatever lets check out the casino". It's not until I've seen this that I've actually gained some sort of appreciation of how mad-crazy that track and F1 Racing is in general.

Circuit of the Americas is an awesome track. I live in Austin and scoped it out while catching Iron Maiden/ Megadeth there last month, and that in conjunction with exposure vicariously through Drew might get me watching some racing.

The red bull kers / traction thing sure sounds like a similar situation to their blown diffuser from a while back. If it's true I could see the FIA change the rules on it but since it's within the regulations they can't penalize them for it if they do.

I think it's time to write a strongly worded letter demanding that they perhaps not do that in the future, maybe.

I know I'm crazy, but the idea that you can crash and just keep going in almost every racing game by default is starting to bother me increasingly as the years go on (unless there's more options regarding that in this particular game). Sad thing is, I know I would hate to play a racer that required absolutely perfect driving out of me. They can never make that game outside of the hyper specialized stuff like iRacing.

Drew, did you know the official Formula 1 site has onboard videos of the best qualifying full laps at each track? The videos have all the gears, throttle/brake, kers, and DRS info throughout the lap which allows you to really get a feel for how the drivers attack the tracks. I love to start memorizing a track in the game, watch the real video to compare my braking zones and gears, then adjust my driving in the game accordingly. It's a great tool and a lot of fun.

If anyone is interested in F1 and has netflix, I recommend watching Senna. Its a documentary on F1 driver form late 80's and early 90's Ayrton Senna.

The reason why Drew couldn't turn properly in the wet race is because he disabled ABS. He was locking the wheels when braking hard, and that makes you lose your direction. And of course it's a lot easier to block your wheels when it's raining.

Qualifying / Grand Prix weekend works like this:

First you get a day of training, usually Friday, I think Monaco is Thursday, which are multiple hour sessions for teams to get a setup, try tires, etc.

On Saturday, there's another morning training session followed by the qualifying in the early afternoon for most tracks. Qualifying consists of three timed knock-out phases where if I remember correctly off the top of my head, the fastest 16 and 10 drivers advance to the respective next stage.

Then on Sunday, you have the race.

If the Vettel KERS story was true, it would be illegal. Any system that isn't operated by the driver is illegal, a couple years ago the computer of many cars would keep the engine reving in the corners to keep higher rpms and accelerate faster out of corners, the FIA banned it because it didn't require any intervention from the driver, which is a rule since the removal of traction control and ABS. Now as far as your story goes, the FIA can look at any telemetric data from any car after a race, if RBR was "cheating" they'd knew rather quickly, and they look at all the cars' data during the week following a race. Not to mention that KERS and DRS goes through a FIA system that enables and disables those system, Vettel would not get away with it, nobody would. It's hard to cheat in F1. Everything's recorded and some cars (at random) goes through scrutiny after the race.

I have only heard of him on Top Gear, but isn't Vettel pronounced veh-TELL, emphasis on the 2nd syllable, and not "Vettle" like mettle? Bugs me every time I hear it, but maybe Jeremy Clarkson has steered me wrong.

I dont know, but look at the tire marks here, red bull looks like they got some sort of traction control happening here.
