Once you're on the character select screen, people CAN NOT join in through matchmaking. The rejoin after you've left a match is so you can redeem yourself of being a TOTAL ASSHOLE, because this game doesn't even have bots when that shit happens. That's how it went in the beta, at least.

Almost as maddening as the fact that nobody playing the game knows to warp back to your base to heal in Incursion...

Somehow I don't get the impression this game is going to take Giantbomb by storm. Nope.

There is something deliciously cruel about starting the QL wavering over whether to play Overwatch instead.

The fact that all the characters aren't open at the beginning is REALLY DUMB.

I don't know, as someone who has played mobas for more hours than anyone should admit to, I am just sick of the genre a bit. I am fine with just playing the one I always played here and there every few weeks for a match, and leave it at that.

Oh it's Blizzard's new game.

I really tried to like this game. The multiplayer was okay for a little I guess. But it just feels so damn boring overall.

This seems like a game that would be genuinely great with some more polish and more engaging and satisfying combat.

Man, that F2P game Loadout looks WAY different since the last update.

Honestly, this looks and feels like an average F2P game chasing the TF2 tail. That's weird to say, given I"ve been playing Warframe for about a month, and that game feels much better than Battleborn.

Well, that's my though-fart of the say. I'll be playing as a cyber ninja until this game gets better, I guess.

Remember when you could play story missions solo and offline? Those were good times.

This game seems like it has so many promising elements but the ways in which they're executed is just... bad.

In particular the way the game communicates things to you in just seems really, really poor. As Jeff noted the hit reactions are almost non-existent on screen (and I'm guessing there's no force feedback if they're complaining about how you can go from alive to dead without really even noticing you're taking hits), which is doubly surprising considering how good Borderlands was at communicating that stuff (ie. the shield burst effect). And the stuff with the greyed out loot... what the hell is even happening there?

I don't think this looks terrible but man Overwatch sending it's open Beta out at the same time was a real dick move because that game is amaaazing.

Oh man, Parawatch? Whatever.

Cool obscure fact for the day. Michel Gagné did the hand drawn effects work for Battleborn. He also was responsible for the art in Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet as well the effects in The Iron Giant among many others.

I know they are not really comparable , but Overwatch blows this out of the water

I think Blizzard doing the open beta right now was a really smart move on their part. By all accounts it also looks like Battleborn hasn`t done so hot, at least not on Steam.

also i really do not understand why so many people are so incredibly down on this game.

I think this game's kind of fun. The mushroom guy that Brad is so hesitant to play is actually a fun class. Every time Brad plays this game he plays the most generic characters.

Now, I'm not buying this game, but I think the group here doesn't really see or show its redeeming qualities. The humor sucks, the missions are generic, but the game feels pretty good, and the class selection feels more unique than Overwatch's.

I'm not trying to defend the game or bring any of that "you're playing it wrong" garbage, but for whatever reason I had a absolute blast with the beta. I definitely had a moment where it clicked and I started playing it more like a MOBA than an FPS for even an action game.

But man, with Overwatch and general lukewarm reception this game seems to be getting, I just don't know if this game will have a player base in 5 months. If I was convinced even a small community would end up sticking with this game I'd drop the cash for the deluxe version tonight.

@towolie: you can still give a sense of varied factions that doesn't just feel like a bunch of shit thrown together

GB east is best part of site GB west just shits on everything also overwatchs gunplay seems like no recoil and TONS of bloom no thanks....(at least on tracers guns) though it still looks kind of interesting due to the bedlam that ensues between heroes.

I think it looks kinda cool, and wow the opening intro was awesome!

@80poundgames: still an for the majority of games. Does suck when it pops up now and again i suppose. Plus this is primarily a multiplayer game so it really shouldnt be an issue here.

@error52: you can yes, but this is not a faction based game.

i personally love the colors in this game and the amazing variety of the different characters. to each there own i suppose.

on a bigger note i do simply miss the more imaganary games ( for example psyconauts and borderlands are decent examples )

It's possible this is alright but i may never know. Think it would have helped instead if it was free to play. From what ive seen i can understand why it isn't hitting it off with the crew; just seems like a huge hodgepodge of ideas that don't quite gel together.

Also saying that gbwest hates everything is way disingenuous.

I haven't played this game yet. But seeing as they don't try to push a genre very hard it just seems meh. If I want to play a MOBA there are many very solid ones already, including SMITE which this is leaning towards. As for a shooter. There are many more solid ones of those as well. Especially with Overwatch coming out in less than a month, which I have played. Which is the most solid shooter I have played since UT 1999. Extremely satisfying shooting, art and hero design.

@tennmuerti: i don't understand it at al, looking at the steam review almost everyone is happy if not better. and the comparatively few bad reviews are mostly based around technical issues rather than "i don't like it"

is it perfect? no nothing is but its not bad at all, including bussnis decisions they made. 1 price for everything, no micro transactions at all and the most important one free maps for everyone to not split up the fan base. sounds like everything that constantly gets asked for yet i don't even see it getting highlighted any ware and that especially makes me sad about the future of gaming.

@towolie: People might not like the game all that well. The business model might be okay, but that doesn't matter if the game doesn't seem appealing. And yes, like with most games the Steam reviews have been pretty positive but the more important thing is that the game has sold incredibly poorly on Steam so far for a game from such a big publisher.

This game is good, maybe not great but definitely not as bad that this QL make it sound like. And I bet many of these commenters has not even tried it but they have watched that Ryckert twitter feed shitting on this game without any reason for like 8+ tweets.

After playing both I did have more fun with Overwatch but I don't think it really "blows it out of the water" or anything. While I get the disappointment in Battleborn as it seems kind of shallow on the surface, I genuinely don't get the incredibly high praise for Overwatch either. Both seem competent with one being slightly more competent at what it's trying to do than the other which is having a slight identity crisis.
