Oddworld Inhabitants is actually still in business and currently working on Oddworld: Soulstorm.

Is it just me or is the audio exceptionally "tinny"? The boot noise in particular sounds like it's suffering from some kind of compression/distortion.

Using PAL versions is bizarre and shit. Those versions of some of those games were much worse.

This seems like something with no love put in it. Like, you'd get this purely for nostalgia's sake, and that's it.

It's kinda hard not just reccomending people get a Raspberry Pi setup going. Especially since this apparently runs on PCSX.

Yeah, I just found out that like half the games on this thing are the PAL versions... wtf? Makes absolutely no sense...

edit: The more I think about it, the more baffled I am about this decision. They went out of their way to literally put the worst versions of the games on this piece of shit... I have no nostalgia for these games running worst than the versions I grew up with in the US.

I'm not even talking about the features it's missing or the list of games. I love the SNES, and I thought the idea of the SNES Classic was stupid. Jeff's opinions on these (unless changed and I haven't watched this yet) mirror my own. Sure, computer emulators work much better (I use one to replay ALTTP every year while still owning my original cart) but they should've released these games on current platforms instead.

There are about 4 games in this that I have an interest in, but I still bought it because the idea of a small Ps1 is pretty cool. The thing I love though, is that the controllers are USB

Also the "enhanced" emulator is PGXP, and mednafen's PSX is original, and highly accurate.

Disappointed!

Even though I know these things are just cheap cash grabs that play off nostalgia, I think I still want one. I only played a handful of games on PlayStation (Looking at the games on the thing, I've only really played Metal Gear Solid and Grand Theft Auto), so going back to explore more of that console's catalog on this thing would be fun.

People seem to be really negative about this thing, and I think a lot of it comes from expectations of what they thought would be on it. I don't know much about the original PlayStation and have no real expectations, so I expect I'll have fun with it.

Soul Edge/Soul Calibur really delivered on the promise of Toshinden.

I was playing Tekken 3 in the arcades recently, not sure if the Ps1 version was inherently slow but I do NOT think it was THAT much slower.

@aktane: it's the PAL version that's slow. Lots of people here in the UK imported back in the day to have it at the proper speed. Why they put the shit PAL version on this is beyond me.

Yeah, that's a really nice detail for them to have included. It's a shame so much of this seems half-assed. It could have been a brilliant nostagia piece instead of what feels like a quick cash grab.

Gosh, Jumping Flash fucking rules! Gives me Katamari vibes of being weird and jolly. Both this and the sequel also had a great soundtrack.

I always think of Mr Driller as a Dreamcast game. Glad it's getting some more attention though, a tarted up version with online leaderboards and stuff could do pretty well today I think

Wow, Jeff couldnt remember a thing about intelligent cube. Those green blocks are essential, you clear them then use triangle to clear all the blocks around it. That is how the game is played, use the green blocks to clear multiple normal blocks at the same time.

It's a shame Jeff didn't bring an original PS1 and controllers for comparison, seems like it would've been good video material to actually have controllers and size and material and that stuff ready when Jeff actually has that stuff.

Jeff skipping the R4: RR Type 4 opening is such a crime.

3D PS1 games really have aged badly huh. Loved my PS1 at the time, not enough to buy this though, then again I haven't bought any of the other "classic" systems either.

I'll stick with running emulators on my pc.

Edit: Watch your god damn mouths about FF7 :) it has had other translations, I think the original's mostly fine though tbh.

Yeah...maybe if I had owned the original Playstation myself back in the day and played any of these games on the system besides just Tekken 3, I could have some nostalgia for this. Now the only thing that got me excited was the PS logo screen and I don't think I want to pay 130€ for that.

That Tekken 3 soundtrack is still great though.

I'm wondering how much of the code that is just stolen from Emulators, not that we haven't seen these big companies steal in the past.

I assume the whole thing is running on android or linux with a modified emulator ontop.

Personally i have no interest in these ₜᵢₙᵧ old consoles, i'd rather play the Remastered Spyro than the Classic Spyro and i feel like that for all of those old games.
Also i can run these on a custom raspberry pi for a fraction of the price and still use the pi for other things.

That nobody is 100% happy with the games list on this device really speaks to the wealth of games that are available on PlayStation. They could have made a ton of variations: One that was just fighting games, one that was just racing games, one that was just RPGs, one that was just Konami games...

Granted, Rainbow Six is a very oddball choice. You can kinda see why the other games are there, from a historical perspective and it's easy to summarize that Grand Theft Auto and Persona are there because those a franchises that are big now... but Rainbow Six? I guess it's there because FPS games are so hot now, but it's not even the best FPS on the system.

Anyway, speaking of what Ubisoft was known for, I thought of them as the small upstart company that made Zombi back then, based on an article in a local games magazine, so I thought it was weird that thy started making "kiddy games" like Rayman (That was how I felt about it back then)

The main difference between the regular and director's cut versions of Resident Evil is the incredible music remastering.
