Some how, of all things that gets me turned on to Dead Cells is the whole review plagiarism fiasco revolving around it.

That thumbnail is a good sign GB West get how glorious G is.

G turned out to be a pretty fantastic character judging by day 1 videos. He has a ton of utility and is very strong. I thought I would hate him but he's been great so far.

Y'all thinking they were gonna like G are in for a rude awakening. I dig him, though. When they originally revealed his face I thought he looked pretty bad, but he turned out to be a really lively character. All of his poses, his delusional speeches, his oddball behavior... he's a real eccentric, larger than life dude, and I like that a lot. He's bizarre and baffling, and nobody in-game or IRL can tell if he's an idiot or if he's secretly doing some shady shit for the Illuminati or whoever.

I wish I could get some elaboration from Jeff on what he feels like is the core of what Street Fighter is and should be, but I'm not sure it that's reasonable. It seems like it's just a feeling of "this is too weird" in regards to certain characters, SF3 characters before and SFV characters now, and it can be hard to nail down what exactly your preferences entail. But all new SFV characters are bad? I can recognize not everyone out of FANG, Laura, Rashid, Necalli, Kolin, Zeku, Ed, Falke, Abigail, Menat or G are bangers, but you'd think anyone could like some of them.

It's the kinda topic that seems ripe for a JAR, at least.

Personally I used to have Street Fighter characters I couldn't stand the look of, like Sakura, Birdie, Rose or Karin, but I've mellowed out on most the characters I hate. Rose's whole design still annoys me.

@genessee: I really like what SFV did to... well, not every character, but for sure what they did to some of the Alpha characters. Birdie, Sakura, Karin and Cody look much better and all had some story development. Mika and Birdie are straight up playable and fun now, too.

its weird when jeff likes a game to the point he has nothing bad to say about it. He plays games quite different from most people so games he likes dont hit many but dang is it nice to see him well...forfilled for once in a long time...since seeing mr sat aan live up to expectations.

Yeah in creative work it can be good when done since your getting a well questioned design. Think marvel vs DC movies. I'd rather play literally any character that debuted in Alpha, SF3, SF4, or SF5, than anyone from Street Fighter 2. I know their icons, but they're all so simple/boring that they put me to fucking sleep.

Animal Crossing New Leaf is a great game to come back to. Shame it didn’t make it to the top ten list in 2012, some of the games on the list didn’t age as well as that 3ds gem

Weird hearing about Jeff having to delete his progress in Dead Cells. When I started it after 1.0 it showed three save slots and my existing being Early Access, so I just selected a new save. (Though I'm probably moving to Switch for the nonce)

@onemanarmyy: Nintendo, as with a lot of things, are bad at sponsoring a video game tournament.

Between the Splatoon events in Japan and the debut of the Nintendo Versus twitter account, Nintendo is getting more in to FGC/esports. I hope they will be pressured to contribute to the prize pool if they continue to be a part of the scene. Last I heard, Nintendo contributes none or very little to the prize pool.

It might be a Japanese law thing where such things are seen as illegal gambling, but I think there has been policy changes in Japan in regards to earnings in esports.

I bought The Crew 2, it's pretty good.

I am really looking forward to playing Dead Cells; I wasn't able to play it yesterday, but I'll get my chance today.

Also, No Man's Sky was absolutely $60 at launch. I remember being kind of upset by it.

I worry with stuff like Fallout76 and Fortnite that eventually we get back to the bad old days of no one unified marketplace and instead of a CD key everything needs a launcher to install.

@ripelivejam: He actually made a deliberate choice there, and I don't think he deleted his old save - he just started a new one. There's a little text box the comes up before it shows the save screen that encourages you to start a new save to see all the new lore/flavor text in the world.

I don't really see the point of that message unless you're the kind of person who's trying to get all the timed door. I generally take my time through each level, so I've been finding all sorts of new little details in each level.

@brad You have done some excellent and thoughtful written work good sir. I know it wont sway your own opinion of it, like many people i still cant get behind my own recorded voice even when its fine. But i still felt like it should be said.

Don't do that. Its quite literally just the smash the community that acts like this at tournaments. They've always been the black sheep of the FGC specifically for reasons like this. No other game had a crowd and a tournament like this. Don't let one game sour you fam.

Jeff and Brad seemed to suggest that Daigo just shows up to Evo for business purposes and not as a real competitor anymore. Or they at least weren't sure. Daigo is very much still a serious competitor and was on a lot of people's short list to win Street Fighter at Evo since he was just coming off of a CPT Premier event win at VSFighting in Europe a couple weeks ago.

@themuse: it's weird because the audio only version is fine. if anything, i would expect the opposite - i could maybe understand making the audio only version intentionally lower to not blow out peoples' ears when listening on their devices.

Boy, Ben's take on the whole deal with the Grand Finals for Smash 4 at Evo was... unique. From what I've gathered, the audience was booing for hours beforehand, and Bayonetta mains were recieving the brunt of it. CaptainZack and Lima stalling out the matches was the end result of them getting metaphorically spat on constantly. It still sucks, sure, but it would be disingenuous to imply that they did this completely unprovoked.

I'm in the boat with Jason on the "had to write a poem, waited until the last minute, and stole song lyrics" front. That was probably 1999. I just swiped from a black metal band since I figured even if the professor somehow decided to check online, they wouldn't be posted anywhere. I got away with it! The thrill of victory!

The dismissal of G I find really weird... moreso when they didn’t make the obvious connection to SFIII’s Q which is IMHO really interesting and exciting.
