I think it's a tough call because I think overall the game is generally amazing, but I do have to say that the gameplay isn't as satisfying as some other recent shooters in that it's largely very one note and kind of rote by todays standards. I appreciate the dedication to the craft, but having to manually pick up health and ammo is a stylistic choice that becomes a chore and gradually a hindrance in combat. The weapons are for the most part basic archetypes we've seen hundreds of times before and the movement is limited in a way that almost seems dated by this point. In a world where even Zelda is greatly expanding on the mobility aspect that lets you realize that go-anywhere, do-anything promise games have been spouting for years on end, having a hard time jumping over waist high cover seems odd in a 2017 title.

That all sounds pretty bad, but I still do think it's amazing simply because the presentation is that strong. Firefights can be fun even if they are largely by-the-numbers shootouts, but everything between them is something else.

@braves01: They kind of have a history of ripping into the negative parts of games they like and glossing over why they like them. You shouldn't let that push you off of it too much.

Haven't gotten my copy of Wolfenstein II yet, but I find it hard to believe that the combat is bad. The first one was one of the better playing first shooters I've ever played, and yet they're saying this one is straight up bad?!

I will defend Super Mario Run until I die. Really fun and challenging, and I thought captured the essence of a 2d Mario with an obviously hampered control scheme being on phones.

For me, the problem I had with the Last of Us 2 trailer was how brutal it was and that it came out of nowhere. It'd be like going to see some PG-13 movie, getting some PG-13 trailers and then immediately diving into a redband trailer for Hostel without even the redband warning. Choose a character piece for the show and drop the other trailer afterwards.

Haven't listened yet but I hope it's not Brad or Jeff shitting on the gameplay as it's infinitely more entertaining than DOOM last year.

Aww no Dota news :( .

So the patch came out today and the heroes seem pretty cool. First of all, they included a new mode. Turbo Dota, which lets you buy items anywhere on the map and give you more xp / gold to speed up the game. It's meant to test stuff out and play some quick low-stake games. They also overhauled the MMR system and go with a more League / starcraft-esque tier system of Bronze / silver / gold etc.

New heroes! The pangolin guy seems mostly like an utility core that can be played in the safelane or offlane. He mostly causes a lot of status effects and chaos to go down in teamfights. He literally jumps around in a ' Rock of ages-like' ball knocking people over and stunning them. You can also jump around over ledges with it. Just a very unique and mobile hero.

The other hero is more of a spellcaster and seems pretty great as a midlaner eventhough Valve sees her more as a support. She is the kind of hero that just does a ton of damage and likes to weave in and out of fights. Also has a big team fight ult that makes people run back to their base for a few seconds, while losing control over their heroes. That said, she does have to get pretty close to enemies to really cause some damage, so that might get punished pretty hard.

But the most interesting hero might be Bane. The meta seems to shift from prioritizing the range creeps towards fully dominating the lane, and getting all the denies you can get. The enemy will only get 30% xp when you deny their creep, so you can pretty much end up in situations where you're 3-4 levels ahead of the other guy. Bane has a spell that takes away damage from his enemy, which means that it's pretty much impossible to win a 1v1 lane against him. Combined with the knowledge that he can now attack you through his 7-second duration stun & has a talent that gives him the damage that you take away from enemies, and you have a crazy strong hero. Too strong? Perhaps. People are already building mask of madness on him and rightclicking people down without them being able to do anything against it.

Also a shout out to Wraith King. Known as Skeleton King before Blizzard made them change the hero, it's good to see he now has the ability to summon skeletons. You get them by critting creeps, and when you summon them they attack whatever is nearby. If you want to direct them to attack a specific target, your stun makes them focus on that target. Otherwise, they just roam around and kill shit on their own. Gives WK great towerpush, solo kill potential and lets you farm scary parts of the map without having to physically be there. It seems really good.

They also gave us some new items to play around with, and took some away. Some items seem almost like they got broken up into two new items, which is a bit weird. Aether lens was the item to get if you wanted to amplify your spelldamage. Now it's more of a mana item, while the new Kaya is the item you want to amplify spelldamage. They also took away the dispel effect from diffusal blade and put it on the new Nullifier Item. Stuff like that.

I just watched a 3.5hr video of it on youtube and man it is ffffantastic. I don't even feel like I missed anything. I genuinely laughed at parts and was on the edge of my seat and surprised at others, damn that was entertaining.

I had a really different experience than the crew as to the Wolfenstein combat. On the 3rd difficulty (normal for experienced people or whatever) and didn't really run into the difficulty wall that the crew did. By no means am I saying "get good" or anything like that; maybe it's cause I replayed the first one over the summer, or I stumbled into the "right" way to play the game a lot earlier, but I've been having a lot of fun with it. In one of the first encounters I quickly discovered that running around/retaking cover was really effective- enemies are slow to draw a bead on you- so I was running around filling Nazis full of lead from the jump. Maybe the game needs to communicate that's the intended method earlier?

Anyway, almost done with the game now and have had a blast with the combat; the story sets up BJ to be this terrifying supersoldier and I think the game does a great job of communicating that through gameplay. While you can't take a ton of hits at all, the weapon feel and the blood/dismemberment in the game makes every shot feel huge. Running through sections of levels with the dual weapons or heavy weapons and just watching nazis get blown apart before they can shoot you is really effective and makes you feel like a badass.

The draw for the game is definitely the story and worldbuilding, but it seems like most of the cast felt like the combat was a huge chore or drawback and I can't say I disagree. It's no Doom, but it's a lot of fun in its own right.

Why do people hat Greg? I listened to KF a few times but I didn't like it enough to keep it in my subs, but I didn't dislike Greg.
