Very interesting choice of words with Alex talking about developers saying "Is Steam holding a gun to your head" and then the transition right into the voluntary work conditions

You only have one life. Do you want to ruin it mentally and physically from making fucking video games?

Vinny needs to check out the new Transformers Trading Card Game. They use extra large character cards (about 2x normal card size) and have just released Combiners that are 5 characters jigsawed together!

Original PS1 to PS One was a really nice console re-design in my opinion... loved the tiny size and more rounded look plus at this point analogue sticks were standard for the Dualshock.

PS2 to PS2 Slim was equally as big of a jump in just how much smaller they managed to make the console, but I still prefer the design of the original.

It's been a while since I've experienced such a whiplash from Quick Look to podcast. Vinny still offers Days Gone a little leeway here and there but he's definitely a lot less generous to it than he was yesterday.

Tbh, I love musou games. So I am cool with a Persona 5 version of that. I liked the Fire Emblem one. I haven't played the new Dynasty Warriors. Also I 100% hope everyone has a gun and you're just running around with a gun shooting shadows.

I really hope they have Dan play the Gatsby flash game. I guess I'll put this in spoilers: The use of the closing text from the novel after the classic NES-style ending is oddly moving.

I read Ancillary Justice because, just like Austin describes, it sounds awesome. Man was that book real bad. Maybe it's Young Adult or just on the verge because while some of the concepts are novel, the execution and general story is just awful. Rarely do I read a book and feel actively angered by it's quality - usually I just don't click with it - but Ancillary Justice made me upset at how poor it was.

@bsmittel: Not entirely sure what you're talking about, I was talking about the back and forths that just flow well. The feed each other very well. It is well within your right to turn stuff off, I'm just not sure your reply was based off of what I was speaking to. As far as overworking people, meh, I have to pull 80-100 hour weeks without extra pay sometimes. Stuff needs to get done.

So the way I look at the MK11 is that it's obviously developed for the primary consoles, and then ported to other platforms. The primary focus they had when porting was to make sure it kept a high and stable frame rate. So to accomplish that on the Switch, they obviously had to sacrifice some of the graphics. From what I've seen and heard, it seems to at least run well on Switch, if you're ok with it not looking as good as it does on other platforms.

God, That encumbrance talk with Austin. I love you dude. Yes it's totally gameplay and it's good when it's part of the fantasy of the ratpack. I absolutely adore going into loot games where I learn what's valuable and what isn't.

I made my character in Dragon's Dogma super tiny, and my pawn super large to carry all my stuff.

Also Alex...YES, I'd love a game where I look like I'm wearing a giant backpack and pouches on pouches. If I can get a large animal companion to carry even more stuff, even better.

Edit: @vinny: Hey, I'm a contractor for concept art myself. I think on your side the solution could be : just think of the human cost anyways, but In a good way. You can do that in a good way too. Value gives people leverage.

I feel like I'm the only person who hates the GBA SP form factor. Yes, the screen was amazing compared to the original, but the small square size cramped the hell out of my hands. The original GBA felt perfect in my hands. I also was one of the people who installed my own Afterburner backlight in my original GBA, which solved the main of the problem with it.

I was at Pomona during Austin's talk there a few months ago and did not work up the courage to talk to him during the meet and greet, but was tempted to cause I had my pretty much entire Netrunner collection in my trunk that could stand offloading cause I haven't touched them for years at this point.

But also Abby should check out MTG Arena. Maybe duel Rorie.

Here is my mandatory line:

Persona got robbed

While I was always a bit surprised why none of them liked P5 all that much - Alex especially always makes it seem like he begrudgingly finished it more than anything else - I also kind of get it. I really loved Persona 3 and then when Persona 4 came out and they all had the glasses gimmick and it was all yellow I dunno.. I felt like this isn't "my" Persona. I was so tied to the characters I grew to like in P3 that I couldn't make the switch. A ton of time went by so when I played P5 I no longer had any real ties to past games and the amazing graphic design and quality of life improvements made me fall in love with this new cast all over again.

So subsequently because all of them fell so hard for Persona 4 I can kind of understand why they had a hard time getting down with P5.

I would like to draw attention to Mister Caravella's testimony that he collects dead things, which categorically exempts human beans such as the late Mister Dan Ryckert from his hobby-related activities. The defense maintains that the video records found at Giant Bomb dot com lay ample groundwork for the attribution of Mr. Ryckert's demise to a tragic hand sanitizing accident.

Also, the defense finds the incompatibility of this website's comments system with tracking blockers highly unusual.

Did everyone forget that AOL purchased The Huffington Post in 2011?

Also, I get that you guys live in NYC and do internet work for a living and the people who don't have broadband access are unlikely to be fans of this site.

https://www.voanews.com/a/rural-americans-struggle-poor-broadband-access/4618792.html

Fifteen million Americans have access to less than 10 Mbps, and the FCC considers less than 25 Mbps to be "poor" broadband access.

Love going from "game workers ought to unionize" to laughing at the idea of dial-up internet in the same podcast. The switch from being woke for labor rights to coastal tech elitism nearly gave me whiplash.

If we applied the Galaxy brain meme format to the encumbrance talk, Austin's take on encumbrance would be the penultimate take. The last take being "encumbrance is bad"

@sto_ln:

Nah man. I was in that situation in my 20's. Then I learned, I get paid or the company can get rekt. I was over employed through most of the recession. And was completely naive to the reality that those 80+ hours per week were complete exploitation even when I thought the ("our") company needed everything I had. Nope. Fuck em. Everyone is replaceable, including the business.
