@cptfudgeicle: I have the same issue on Firefox/Android. Everything I press just starts playing. No issues on desktop though so have to download it there and transfer it to my phone.

Bug report can't seem to get the mobile web browser to download this podcast .. click on options doesn't work and when I click on option it plays the podcast and does not give me option to download it..

@tr0n: it's very irksome just how passionate they are about hating it. Jeff who didn't even like RDR1 and by the sounds of it never gave 2 a real chance because the movement is too slow. Dan only started hating the game after sixty hours.

again it's just a little off-putting how passionate they are about hating the game.

i pity anyone that goes to bat for it in the GOTY discussions, if anyone bothers to.

RDR2 having cheat codes not only seems dated, it just feels so antithetical to the experience Rockstar has been crafting for the last 8 years. For me, the novelty of seeing how detailed the world was eventually wore off, and I was kinda left with another GTA that felt stripped down a bit.

By the way, that chase scene with the hot air balloon was one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.

The much more likely the reason they have PAL versions in playstation classic is to get i18n coverage for the PIGS(F) regions. I find the idea that they'd do it for performance reasons highly unlikely.

Also it's weird to hear people who have been basically "I can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 or I don't care" now suddenly be able to tell the difference between 50 and 60 :-p

(Yes of course 50Hz looks worse on a 60Hz display. PS Classic sounds like a poor product, but PAL isn't reeeeally the problem just as NTSC isn't the solution)

I probably put 40 hours into Red Dead. Playing it as a cowboy simulator that had a decent story was cool....for a while.

I really hope RDR2’s monopoly on gaming time & coverage stops at some point.

@eloj: actually, I think it’s the best thorough analysis of a game. RDR2 sets itself up as a game that deserves 100s of hrs of your time.

To see it fail at 40, says a lot.

I think it shows how the development was wrapped up, after 3 delays.

Without spoilers, think about the end scene before epilogue. Think of how inconsistent Arthur’s evaluation of the situation was, think of the new region in chapt 5.

I love watching people talk themselves in circles to try and make it impossible to criticize RDR2. It’s okay to recognize flaws in things you love. It’s okay to love things others see flaws in. Arguing that someone’s view is invalid doesn’t make you more right. It just makes you look petty and woefully insecure in your opinions.

@eloj: As someone who grew up with PAL-region consoles that were locked to 50Hz, I'll say that although the 30-to-60 FPS jump does seem like it would be way more noticeable, going from 50Hz to 60Hz was more impactful to me in the long run.

60 FPS is nice when things are fast, but I can totally deal with 30 FPS games no problem; whereas 60Hz is better, and now I don't ever want to go back to 50Hz. It's why I've barely even fired up my older consoles in recent years - despite the fact I've held onto them - as I don't wanna deal with that!

It has shocked me in recent years seeing NTSC versions of games being played on here, that I played the PAL versions of as a child, running so much more smoothly than I remember.

So, yeah, I could see why people aren't so taken aback by it. Even as someone who was used to it for many years, I wouldn't want to go back, so I imagine for people with little-to-no-experience of 50Hz gaming, and a lot of 60Hz experience of a particular title (such as Tekken), it'd probably be pretty noticeable seeing that title run in 50Hz. As I said, the inverse is true for me.

Terminator 3 is worse than both Genisys and Salvation - especially Salvation which is like an alright alternative take on the franchise. Genisys is awful but in a corny and sometimes fun way because it’s the best his collection of Terminator. T3 is just kinda boring and soulless with a few decent action scenes and a god awful fucking ending.

@clintlandon: ehh people are “arguing” because you get a very different reaction from saying “that game wasn’t for me” and “that game fucking sucks.” One is having an opinion the other is having an opinion that is actively trying to invalidate the opposing opinion, which is why people sprung up to defend the game.

I agree with Alex, the Yakuza games are my favorite in terms of food representation. 90% of the food Kiryu gets from those restaurants looks amazing.

My gut tells me that RDR2 was ruined for Dan because he was too locked into finishing. At the same time Alex pushed all the way through, but I've found that the best way to play that game is to put it down once it starts to feel tedious. I keep coming back ready to play with patience.

Does Dan like a Lucas Pope game? He really has changed.....

@jeff@danryckert Hey guys, if you're looking for (afaik) the best way to play MGS 1 today, an enterprising guy on Reddit created an altered version of the PC version that has native XInput controller support, copes with higher resolutions, and has none of the aliased jaggies of the PS1 version. I played all the way through with it and it's great!

No idea what the legality of it is considering the MGS 1 PC Edition is largely vaporware, so won't share it here, but you can find it easily by Googling, like, "Metal Gear Solid 1 PC HD Reddit" or something like that.

EDIT: There's also a fanpatch for the PC version of MGS 2 that makes that game play like a dream, too. It's called "V's Fix".

Not every game is going to "speak" to people in the same way.

For instance, Fallout 76, speaks in really ugly expletives and takes drunken fisticuff swings at its players...

Yet, the gang won't talk about Fallout 76 because nobody at GB actually cares about it. For all the fans of RDR 2 out there upset, I would say this - the fact it is a fractious debate shows it is worthwhile to be discussed by the GB crew. They sure-as-shit are not wasting their time talking about Fallout 76, Battlefield V, or other terrible crap this week.
