Quick Look: Dying Light 2: Stay Human

It looks to ubisoft like game.

To much mindless work, also who has stamina to go through those lame dialogs, it makes you want to skip, skip...

This looks fun. Can't wait to play with friends.

yea i was super excited about this. ill still get it but not for a hot second. the UI changes they made are not my favorite.

I think Jeff needs to get farther into the game to unlock more traversal stuff and that would solve alot of the stuff he's complaining about. I know the game doesn't make it clear but running around doing random side stuff early on is not ideal for having a good time in these games.

This looks bad. I didn't particularly enjoy the first either. Glad I can write this one off (at least for now), with so many other big releases on the way.

Techland is always a crapshoot. Sometimes it's CoJ: Gunslinger. And sometimes... it's Chrome.

Visually, this looks worse. Also, looks like they added in a bunch of filler stuff and random stuff to bloat out the game. I’m really disappointed watching this.

Mostly positive reviews on Metacritic. Gamespot gave it a low score, because the reviewer didn't like the story and the final boss. The first game got detractors and word of mouth ended up saving it kind of like Days Gone. Keep this in mind before writing it off, because Jeff G, is being Jeff G. Not saying he is wrong, but he could be. Play it yourself and find out. Who knows, it might be a future Game Pass game.

Looks like I expected. For me the first game was a very fun multiplayer experience with my SO. More of that is enough for me with this.

The only little worrying aspect is the performance/optimization and bugs. Any word how this runs with older GPU:s? My partner is still kicking with a GTX 970 and I've been thinking how this game runs with that.

@kelton312: To me, that's a big knock against this game and it's the main reason I never finished the original. Skill unlocks should enhance the gameplay and add complexity, not gate what should be basic abilities that would make gameplay less of a chore.

If a game requires me to commit hours of time to unlock the skills to make it fun, then they fucked up.

I would play this if it was on Game Pass or something. Not interested in full price.

@bigpaul9000: It is better in every single metric. I really enjoyed it, and I'm surprised at what I'm reading in some of these negative reviews.

@mars92: I find it fun to go from a shitty dude to a crazy parkouring bad ass. I totally get the complaint, but maybe it's just not Jeff's kinda game if he needs to move like it's Apex Legends from the start. I haven't played it yet but it truly seems (from previews) like it doesn't take more than an hour or two to get some of the vital traversal skills. I think in this video Jeff did one quest and started futzing around. He says he's 12 hours in but is constantly talking about how much crappy side stuff is everywhere, just do the main quest?

Is there a particular technological/scheduling reason that 9/10 Jeff G Quick Looks are a solo one of him talking to himself?

I don’t completely hate it, I just think when Jeff has extensively played a preview code of a game or whatever and has a few talking points, it can be nice when the Quick Look co-pilot throws in a few questions that the pilot wouldn’t always think to bring up.

I cannot fathom why this took seven years to make. It just looks like a completely rehashed series of animations, environmental details like the climbing/grip points on the towers, etc. It even sounds like the main character's voice actor is basically doing an impersonation of the one from the first game. There's nothing inherently wrong with any of that, but why did it take so long? It doesn't even look particularly good. Granted, I'm sure this is recorded at 1080p, and I have no idea what the bitrate is, but most of the textures just look muddy and plain. I loved the first game, but this looks like a hard pass for now.

@doncabesa: Did you do a review for this? I'm interested based on what I see, but it looks like a product that would benefit from me having realistic expectations about what to expect haha. After all, their initial pitch was how reactive and amazing the story was gonna be (complete with pre-revelations Chris Avellone).

Separately from that, I wish Jeff quick looks featured a second person. I think Jeff + Jan would be a good combination, he has the right level of "knowledgeable but not fully jaded" to counterbalance some of the other members of the staff (which I think we have to thank for gems like his GOTG speech at GOTY)

@cyrribrae: Yeah I did, pretty much if you liked the first one this is a bigger/better version of that.

It stinks. It stinks like this game because it doesn't control like Titan Fall or have super powers ala Saints Row and because I'm bad at playing it and don't read anything. This game sucks. And I'm here to tell you about it.

You know what else sucks? Outer Wilds. I couldn't figure it so anyone that likes it is a criminal.

In conclusion, this game is terrible at telling you what you can't climb on, but of course it has yellow colored indicators of where to go, like every game now.

Love it when a Quick Look saves me money.

I know it's a decision made for the sake of fun gameplay over realism (and I'm absolutely sure Jeff would have hated it were it any different), but watching that hostage tied up on the ground, and the incoming zombies shuffling past and completely ignoring him to come after you and those enemies kind of killed the immersion for me. I know it's a side mission or whatever, and you probably need to free him to complete it, but that guy would have been as good as dead.

When he opened the pause menu with the inventory, skill trees, dumb looking character standing in the middle of the screen, I got major Cyberpunk vibes. Like a cross between Cyberpunk and an Assassin's Creed game.

Like its long-legged predecessor, I'm sure there's a good chunk of people that are going to latch on to a 500-hour Euro-jank, Zombie apocalypse Action-RPG. I'm not that person, but this game seems fine from watching a hour and a half chunk of it.

Loved the first one and this looks better. Can't wait to play.

Let's all get together, as a society, and stop making zombie games.

Shouldn't all the stuff be good though? I don't expect side quests to be as well written or designed as the main quest but they also shouldn't suck. There's many games where most people don't even play the main story because the side stuff is so interesting. I feel like that's a valid complaint.

If you really go into this game with a negative attitude, of course you are not going to enjoy this and nitpick everything.

sooo this is boring and nothing new but Halo was the best game of 2021 okay. did he play the first game? This looks like that and a bit “bigger” so I think I might be okay with that. But hard to watch because Jeff just hates on everything at a certain point in that QL…

Well, feels like a "Steam sale months down the line" sorta game for me. I'll probably have fun with it but I don't feel the need to play it right now.

Always wanted to go back to Dying Light to finish it but looks like I’ll just play this instead….when it’s $40 or less. Hopefully by then the bugs will be ironed out as well as the progression tree

That Mad Max game was bad ass though and you can get it super cheap.

Being 10 hours into a game and not having basic traversal options is incredibly bad game design.

@skullcrushermountain: That's what I was getting at, as far as I can tell it doesn't take anywhere near 10 hours of playing this game to acquire the traversal skills, I believe most of it is tied to main quests which is why I posted that I think he's been futzing around with side stuff for 10 and done maybe a main quest or two in this video. DL1 is the same exact way and I loved it. You start off pretty underpowered and every zombie is scary, by the end you are literally spiderman and a single zombie goes down like nothing. The journey/build is interesting to me but I can totally see why someone like Jeff doesn't enjoy it. I just wish GB had someone on staff still who was willing to play these types of games without nitpicking every little thing so Jeff didn't have to and he could go play apex/cod or whatever.
