I completely forgot about this series.

Edit: Wow, I've never seen Vinny get annoyed with chat like that.

@grephat_isch: The fight itself? She's tough to beat, she regenerates a couple of times, but there's no trick, just learning patterns.

After defeating her? There's a power you get from her that you can use to unlock a new part of the map.

SPOILERS: use the power on the blood fountain.

Couldn't beat her, been waiting for the switch patch hoping that solves it. I've heard rumor they buffed that boss cause people were saying the game was too easy.

@grephat_isch: She's quite hard. I bought a couple of potions which allowed me to get a bit careless in the fight.

Slick work, Caravella. That's some good thrusting and grinding.

A really fun and well-designed boss that would be better with like 70% of that health pool.

As many testified, with the right loadout (upgraded Welcome Company + Dullahammer Head familiar for me, though I'm sure there are many others), you can tear through this boss very easily, with no need for learning or even encountering patterns. I find it really - well, not odd; predictable is more the word - that some were claiming the game was broken because they had difficulty overcoming this boss with loadouts similar to Vinny's. That's why you're given so many attack options, people. Switch something out if your weapons aren't proving effective for the occasion.

Will chat ever learn its lesson about unsolicited tips? -_-

I understand what you're saying, but people in chat are naturally going to discuss their own experiences with the challenges onscreen at the given moment, particularly if the person playing is having protracted difficulty. Not all of this is directed at the player - most of it's just chit-chat - but I don't think it's remiss for a couple people (a couple people) to offer a heads-up if the player's present course of action is gonna set them up to have a bad time the game didn't really intend.

@vinny: I have some quick tips which might help with the quality of life as you're playing this game:

1. You can set a shortcut to only have a spell on it and not change out your equipment by going to each item in the shortcut and choosing "remove" at the top. I did this to create a shortcut for Reflector Ray and some other useful movement spells. You'll know you are successful when the items other than the one you want to change are grayed out.

2. O.D.'s book choices will increase throughout the game. You can return to him at the room just below the Livre Ex Machina warp to change out your checked out books for better ones.

3. After double jumping, you can hold down and press jump to do a dive kick. This can be used to jump on enemies for minor damage and will reset your second jump if it hits.

4. Some shards become innate when upgraded to level 9, and are then always available even when not in your loadout. This includes shards with Resist, Augment, and Expertise in their name, as well as a few others.

5. If you find the spell Teps Oceus, try it out. It was a game changer for me.

Yup blood lady is a real pain. I gave up after like 8 deaths, stocked up on food, potions n leveled some things and then went back to her. I think she's just a raw numbers fight really since her attacks aren't that difficult to avoid.

I wonder if the red is giving Vinny trouble in seeing the blood rain.

This is one of those I wonder if contact damage should be a thing in the game. Some of her "attacks" are just quick steps towards you. The tornado is dangerous because the she stands in the center near you also.

I wonder how they will fare in the next area...

vinny pls use different shards. you get like a billion of them throughout the game, its like the main point of the game and its fun to experiment with em. i get that heretical grinder became a small meme initially but you have better options.

i hate that these play-throughs end up being "lets use the same tactics 100x" especially since alex is literally looking at live chat trying to give tips. btw if these are supposed to be blind let's plays i will stfu.

I'm on my second run through the game (thanks, Microsoft's Game Pass!) and did not know that. You've probably saved me an hour going through menus.

I wanna give this game´s Nightmare mode another shot at some point, because overleveling seems like It´d be less possible there. As result of collecting everything and making all the food and gear I could I never experienced bossfights being tough the way Bloodless was here, and I´d like to also have that experience.

There´s also the 2 Character DLC coming out, but from the vagueries on the Kickstarter they still seem far off. I´m fully expecting OD to be the second playable character but I wouldn´t complain if it was somehow Bloodless. She´s got enough stuff going on, on her own to probably make her pretty fun.

Chat ruined the SOTN playthrough. Now they are beginning to ruin this as well.

I just wanna watch Vinny play and have fun - not be frustrated. Backseat gaming is a nuisance and ruins the experience. It's micromanagey and sucks the fun out of the content they are providing.

Please play without chat!

Man, Vinny's so much better at this game than I am. My strategy against all bosses were 1. upgrade gear 2. stock up on healing items. 3. stand next to the boss and attack until I run out of healing items.

Kinda surprised Vinny hasnt killed the series considering it seems like a lot more whining than what happened with the "politically charged" 4th of July video series.

First of all Vinny is really enjoying the game. And nothing has really come close to the comment section for the 4th of July series in this playthrough.

@indigozeal: Yeah I upgraded the fireball second spell you get to max really early and tore through pretty much the entire game with just that then towards the very end and on new game plus switched it to an upgraded daggers (the one you get from the ninjas). on new game plus i max upgraded a few passives, which gives you a permanent buff. So was even more op once I realised that I upgraded most of the passives. you still get the buff from the equipped passive as well so it doubles that effect. But I'm obssesive and did far more grinding than I imagine Vinny will ever do on this series.

I did read that the developers were only allowed to put a boss in if they could beat it with a basic dagger.

@godpinch: See, I barely touched the fireball or daggers, so it's interesting for me to hear you can get them to OP. You can take your build in so many directions with fruitful results.

I imagine one of the issues here is that the stuff the game expects you to do to develop your character is menu-based, which is not as streaming-friendly as more direct gameplay.

ETA: I think the presence of the Dan Hint System would be beneficial in avoiding both gameplay roadblocks and issues involving chat acrimony.

I find Fear Inoculum to be an excellent album but I can see where Vinny is coming from. 6 minute, angsty Tool songs are still awesome. I’d like to see them make some music like that again but know that that won’t happen as they’re no longer that young, angry band. They even have a song about that on this album.

Also, Vinny trying to hide or avoid the names of old Tool songs he might be jamming to like Prison Sex, Aenima, or Stinkfist from his kids is hilarious. “This song is called uh, Prison...time, no Prison Food. Yep, Prison Food. This one is Aenima (yeah, you’re not gonna know what that means for a while), and this is Stink uh Sti...Untitled. It’s Untitled, don’t ask.”

This "Chat is bad " thing is terribly silly. Like everyone else in the internet making videos about playing video games, they need to clearly ask what they don't want from it and in their case, stop assuming they are yelling every sentence( for your own sake). I've seen chat in these cases, and while I understand it might be annoying, it's mostly people who like them already and want to help.

People assuming the worse of others or being passive aggressive has never solved any problem.

Helpful tip for Vinny:

Your double-jump ability also comes with a useful Dive Kick move. After the second jump, hold down (or down diagonal) and press jump again to descend rapidly. If you hit an enemy or an object (like a torch) you will bounce off of it and can double-jump again and do another Dive Kick. This is helpful for getting around the map, and also for getting over large enemies. You can also bounce off of the Buer Familiar (Buers are those weird multi-legged, dog-faced creatures) which makes handy when you're trying to get some place higher (it usually jumps with you). Hope this is helpful.

There is a line of dialogue with Dominique, the shop lady about her.

I have no idea why I can't find this on the internet, but I swear that there is an easy way to shorten the second phase. She mentions that she can pull the blood out of you if you have a single scratch.

Maybe I beat this boss before a patch, but in my experience, if you never get hit, she will never heal.

If you heal to full health, you will interrupt her self-heal.

Haven't watched it yet but from the thumbnail they get to bloodlady, which is where I got stuck. WTF are you supposed to do? Community help me.

@shorap: I'm very much in the "Lateralus is their best album" camp, so probably the opposite of where Vinny is with Tool.

I think Alex has it right. Fear is a perfectly good album, but it's basically 10,000 Days part 2. The band isn't evolving much.

Wow, what happened to this game? I remember this boss being pretty damn easy and I played on hard. Not criticizing Vinny's playing as I'm talking about raw damage numbers I was putting out and my defense. Wonder if this is one of those games where hard actually makes some things easier or if patches really changed the difficulty of this boss.

Man I love the new Tool. Yeah Vinny listening to this thing in the car with children is the wrong way to go for this one. I wait for my wife to leave for work and sit down with a couple glasses of wine and a decent audio system and it's an amazing experience. Lateralus is my favorite Tool album though and I don't love Undertow so..

Also I'm surprised Alex didn't point out how crazy good Danny Carry's drum work is.

I read Snow Crash for the first time a couple years back and, boy, that book does not hold up. It's so edgy and corny. But really what soured me is some weird pedo stuff at the end that comes out of nowhere. There is like nothing sexual in the book and all of a sudden it goes into details on an underage girl getting it on with an adult and it's just ... gross and random.

Honestly, I think Ready Player One is way better even if it slavishly follows Snow Crash.

@frytup: depending on my mood I’d say Aenima or Lateralus is my favorite Tool album. 10,000 Days is probably my least favorite of theirs (unless we’re counting the EP).

Unless I change my mind in the years to come I’m thinking Fear Inoculum is my third favorite Tool album. It’s like a better put together 10,000 Days.

I think I used Gale Crawler from the Aello enemies and flying dagger from the assassins from during and the area after the train journey on this boss, though those 2 were ones I kept on for large parts of the game.
