u2 is a totally fine "i have a best of album from them" band.

but my favorite u2 related thing is by far the sepultura cover of bullet the blue sky.

never heard this album though, because i have an android phone :)

Also, this is funniest episode so far!

U2 was the first CD I ever bought. Somewhere along the way they got a bad case of pretentiousness. I haven't voluntarily listened to them in years. I did think it was funny when their album got pushed to all the douche-phones.

Lucy is dead right. Italian food is awesome, but the pastries there are dry and sweet and not much else.

I went to a U2 concert in 2018. This album is fine. Has two great songs.

While not their best, Songs of Innocence was not bad. Conan O Brien even did a bit about skit where folks listened to the album and thrashed it because its u2. Conan then wiped their memories into forgetting who U2 is. They then listened to the album and found it great lol.

I have to say, I'm sincerely enjoying watching Giant Bomb slowly turn into a public access TV channel.

By the way Sleep Like a Baby Tonight is meant to be creepy. It is about a priest molesting a child. Pretty dark song

"Sorry the album is good actually" isn't lathered in insults so I'm counting it.

Mostly when I think of U2, I'm thinking of that video with The Edge falling off The Stage.

I enjoy these episodes. That said, in this f-d up world, the worst crime is being sincere and care about anything except pop culture and games, I guess. It feels too simple to blame South Park, but I'm going to blame South Park and all the sheep that took their "satire" as fact.

U2 was my favorite band in high school. I've seen them over ten times in concert. I have never heard a note of this album.

I remember hearing "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" off the Batman Forever soundtrack as a child and it blew my mind.

fun episode! U2 is complicated, and though they have a shit ton of chud in their catalogue- there's also legendary songs and albums.

this guy gets it. 90s U2 is my fav- achtung baby might be one of the best reinventions of a major rock act ever. 'lemon' cannot be denied. and 'discoteque' is just a tremendous song.

i also really appreciate achtung baby for the edge's guitar work- i feel like that's the album he moved beyond cascading delay on everything and came up with some really iconic sounds ('even better than the real thing,' 'mysterious ways' etc)

The truest thing mentioned is that Bowie's last album was great, and that he really can't be judged like most other artists. U2 is a good band that basically wore out their welcome.

I think its really a shame as this was best u2 album for 20 years and the whole Applegate ruined any reception it was going to get. The biographical songs suited the u2 sounds on the album. Especially loved 'raised by wolves'

I'd like an episode where they talk about what they like so I can better gauge what exactly they're objecting to, in an artistic sense.

I always hated Beautiful Day by U2 because it was the intro theme to The Premiership on ITV (which was the daily round up of highlights for the Premier League) because as Bono screamed "TOUCH ME!!!!" it showed a clip of a goal scored against the team I support.

My favourite thing about U2 tho is that song Vertigo where he opens it by saying "Uno, dos, tres, catorce" 1, 2, 3, 14 in Spanish, which is just objectively hilarious

This series has really grown on me - really enjoy each show and getting to know the crew's perspectives. Also just dreading the day when they cast their eyes (ears?) over an album by a band I might have over-invested myself in as a teenager - but it'll still be fun!

Agreeing with everything here. So much so that I'd suggest that a crew of people who only became culturally aware of U2 post-2000 are completely incapable of understanding "why anyone cares about U2." They stared with Painfully Sincere U2 V.20, without following them on the path that took them there.

And I just have to add that Edge's guitar solo on "The Fly" is probably my favorite thing U2 recorded EVER.

Finally caught up to this episode after a week, and I have to say "Songs of Innocence" is by far the highest quality album they've covered so far on this show. That being said, it's not a good album, just also not a bad one. I guess I'm one of those people that rage-deleted the album once it was pushed to my iTunes account, because I tried to re-download it and it only gave me the booklet.

Now let's all buy some RAV4s!
