I wish there were an easy way to know when the video Bombcast goes up. You would think that a "watch now" button would only take you to a video, but that is not the case.

I don't know if I'm alone in this, but for whatever reason new console postulation is some of my favorite material talked about on the Bombcast.

Xbox is not too worried about leaving certain markets behind. After all, with the Xbox One launch they only launched in 13 countries initially and it's TV & voice command features don't necessarily all work in every country. If there's a sizeable marketplace for a streaming box, it will happen.

This Phillip Brock guy (PR & Marketing Director THQ-Nordic) was definitly also the guy that was posting in the AMA. This was not a case of this AMA invite bouncing around the company for a while.

I was born around the same time as the roommate in that email and i think the device i encountered Tetris on was one of those little 5$ toys with a dedicated game on it. We had one of those with tetris & seabattle laying around the bathroom. I don't recall playing Tetris on DOS or Playstation 1, so that version was pretty much my only avenue for tetris. I might've played some flash version on the school's computers at some point though.

I had a similar thing as the 28 year old who never heard of Tetris. I was listening to the audiobook for The Stand at work a month or so ago and someone asked me what I was listening to and said it's The Stand and then he asked me what it was about and I really went, "Wait what? You never heard of Stephen King's The Stand?" And then had to explain the novel to him and how it's one of his most famous stories. I can see somehow him not knowing about that novel but it was still a fucking weird situation to find myself explaining to someone what the hell The Stand was about.

The Game Pass stuff on Switch is almost certainly going to be Streaming and not playing directly on the Switch outside of those rumoured games.

I question that email about Google's Stream test. As someone who played 15 hours of AC:OD throughout the test, it was still not good enough for me to ever ditch actually having the game in front of me. I played it wired with a pretty fast connection and while latency was less noticeable than other streaming setups it was still noticeable.

The worst thing about the test (other than it not being in Stereo) was when you'd run through a colorful, dense, forested area and the video compression started to shit the bed.

Hmm, I found Wargroove to be pretty fair actually ("the computer cheats"? what?). Getting S-Ranks is definitely a challenge, and there is some learning curve to just how much your commander can handle before you've doomed them to certain death, but in a lot of cases the AI is probably a bit too predictable.

The puzzle mode should unlock sooner though. Going through that really helped solidify which units were good to use against others etc.

I don't mind buying digital games, but I enjoy going to the store/getting a physical copy shipped and having a physical disc for my games...I just don't want to go digital only

What is absolutely amazing to me is that two of the nine suggested YouTube clips after the Detective Pikachu trailer ended are Dragonball related.

Oh god, Ben finally switched from saying "hopper" to "hop-up". Every time he said hopper it bothered me and I DO NOT KNOW WHY I'm not usually that guy. Also hearing everyone bounce off the difficulty of wargroove is interesting, I'd be interested to see how they're all playing. So far the only difficulty I've had has been in trying to hit 3 stars on everything. There must be an intrinsic difference in playstyle or priorities, because I don't think I'm playing particularly well..

My God. That Anthem bug Brad talks about that basically blue screens your PS4 is maybe the most insane bug I've heard in possibly forever. Unbelievable.

Oh boy, the 8chan reporting is a bit off. 8chan and 4chan had global bans on child porn since their inception, and both were temporarily blacklisted by google in their early days amid accusations that their moderators weren't deleting posts fast enough. But 8chan got relisted after a few weeks once they made it clear that the mods weren't letting things slip by.

8chan is more comparable to Reddit, in that they let anyone create and manage their own subforum. Also like Reddit, they banned some problematic racist and jailbait subforums, years ago. This was also around the time 8chan was sold and changed ownership

Fun fact: THQ is not the first game developer to openly post on 8chan's video game board! Others include American Mcgee, Daniel Vavra, Hideki Kamiya, and Yoko Taro, and a couple of indie devs.

Oh phew. Just another site with some shitty users back in the day. That happens. Luckily it was solved years ago and now it's a great place for users & businesses alike!

Strange thing is that i am not able to get to the frontpage of 8chan via google. Oh well, i can figure this out. Here we go. 8Chan. Sure, you have to step over the loli stuff and all the blatant racism that meets you from the frontpage on, but the kindhearted people of the videogame board of 8chan have no interest in that kind of stuff what so ever i imagine, so we'll try to ignore that for now. The first post on the board might be a bunch of people trying to spin the THQ reporting as anti-semetic while invoking the holocaust & homophobic slurs but that's just kids playing around i guess. 2nd post is some gripes about localization where people straight up talk about N*** skin. Okay but that might not be fair. Let's go to /r/gaming which is more gamer culture & meme targeted instead of informational. Yet again i'm able to post an image of the frontpage without GB mods having to get angry at me.

Now if i want to reach out to the community to do an AMA for my gamecompany, i don't think i would come away with the conclusion that 8chan and reddit are similar sites. It seems like 8chan with it's the Darkest Reaches of the Internet slogan is not even trying to be similar. Doing an AMA on reddit & 8chan can't be seen in a similar light therefore.

Oh yeah, the place is still a toxic cesspit. It's comparable to Reddit in terms of structure and moderation, but the content and userbase are still identical to 4chan. The worst of both worlds!

Although Reddit *still* has large and small communities centered around outright racism and pedophilia, but they just do a better job of keeping them out of sight and confined to private, invite-only subreddits.

I cannot understand why Jeff's so bent on owning games. All substantial games of our time are saved on so many machines and devices that there will practically be no archival problem anytime soon. Besides the concept of owning is not a very stable one. You can die any moment and then you don't own shit. Your house can burn down. Your discs can get accidentally scratched etc.

I usually listen to Bombcasts the day after and I had to exercise a lot of restraint yesterday because I saw the THQnordic shit unfold and knew a good chunk of yesterday's pod was going to be them reacting to it live. Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Edit: Eh, the THQNordic story didn't drive them up a wall as much as I hoped.

Gotta love some good corporate backtracking. I particularly admire THQs panicked dedication to the "We're not evil, we're just really, really stupid," defense.

Dreams Early Access is limited by the way. It's a first come first serve kinda deal. There will be more slots than in the Beta, but it will be limited in numbers.

oh Brad, DOA is not respected as a fighting game, and it's because of the blatantly lame fan service...and because Virtua Fighter and Tekken are way better.

The mindset that Microsoft is leading the way on cloud gaming when they have nothing but hype right now and Sony have had an actual cloud gaming service running for 5 years, is a really weird one.

Devices fail/die etc. Services go offline, rights/license expire. Being able to own a game and not rely on a central, single-point-of-failure is a good redundancy to have.

There's plenty of games that have been taken off xbox live/psn/steam etc that I wished I had owned but now unable to purchase. Or games I want others to try but for the same reason. This lack of control has some major downsides.

Glad Brad gave Anthem a LITTLE more time. I honestly am glad to hear at least one of the crew say something positive, even if followed by a bunch of negativity- I think the jump in and fly around/jump/gun in freeroam is enough for me, I enjoy the more or less inconsequential campaign, but that isn't the draw for those still enjoying it. I do hope they continue with their plans, but also and more importantly, that they fix the bugs, esp that PS4 shutdown, oof.

@elite49: I’m actually the one that sent that email. I can only speak to my experience, but everything I said was true for me. I didn’t end up getting very far in the game because my kids were born right in the middle of it so I stopped having a lot of time. So perhaps some spots of the game work better than others. Also my laptop only has a resolution of 1366x768 so I probably would have noticed more compression and lag if I had been playing on a 1080p display. Either way for my experience it was more than enough to sell me on the service.

I thought it was really cool THQ did an AMA on /v/, it was a blast and they did a good job of it.

It's very strange to see all these articles about it trying to frame it as something negative. Just the usual cycle of sensationalism and outrage over something they don't like, and I'm sure the traffic doesn't hurt either.

For me, wrt DoA, I feel like cheesecake is part of the brand identity to an extent that you kind of have to take it with the rest of it, but you can still do it in a way that isn't completely gross, on aggregate. This of course is going to depend person to person though.

You guys need need to remember that the USA has extremely poor internet infrastructure and you are kidding yourselves if you think streaming games is a realistic possibility for most of us. Even with 5G, playing a game in 4K is going to destroy any modern bandwidth caps.

It is still a cool option and maybe the future, but not anytime soon for most people.

I read the entire AMA on 8chan and it was fucking revolting top to bottom. It's impossible to post a screenshot of an entire browser window from the AMA because of its contents. Their continued presence and tacit acknowledgement of the threads' content is contemptible and disgusting. If you're a reg at 8chan, you too are disgusting. Don't @ me I do not give a fuck
