maaan- i've never felt so out-of-touch with the scene as that bit of conversation they had surrounding influencers getting a taste of game sales on epic.

i mean i get it- and i'm not against it per se. but i'd really have to reevaluate if giant bomb for instance started getting kickbacks for converting users to games. there's just something about 'covering' games (as opposed to 'entertaining' with them...like a ninja, for instance) that makes me never want an outlet to have a financial stake in a game's success. it's probably foolishly idealistic of me, but that's getting too close to the business for me to be at ease.

I have to chime in on broader lands vr. Two weeks in a tow I held off last week but they blew the correction. You can use the move for free movement and aim your gun with your right hand. I have been playing this way for a few weeks now. Not sure how he is missing this option. Also Brad get better and come back.

That Gearbox story is like an episode of Eastbound and Down or something.

All right. I'm chiming in on this one. Giant Bomb is where I find out about pretty much every game I ever buy and/or play, and have for about 12 years (I seem to increasingly buy games I never get around to playing, but that's okay because I get a lot from their existence, and that's my way of giving back for that enjoyment). Since that's the case, Giant Bomb is responsible for my buying so many games, that I wouldn't otherwise be aware of, and they should be compensated for promoting those games (far more than any ad agency developing commercials, billboards, or the like). I trust Jeff, and Giant Bomb et al. (I used it!), to keep doing things the way they do things. I strongly suspect that Giant Bomb's control over such things was in the deal when they were bought by CBSi. That said, if I could, I would buy all my video game goods in a way that would give them credit.

That Randy Pitchford / Gearbox story is wild. But the whole idea of this guy throwing private parties that are fully recorded and where allegedly underage girls have seen magician's wands, tells me that there's more happening there than just magic. Especially when the subject of porn just keeps circulating around Randy. The idea that he invites people to watch all the tapes to clear his name is pretty laughable as if there's a way to verify that every party ever held there was documented.

If all this was just some 18+ porn, it would've been no big deal at all. That's one of the most viewed porn categories!

When it comes to Earthworm Jim, is it me or was he never as edgy as a Duke Nukem? I remember him flirting with the beelady & doing some cool guy stuff, but it also felt like there was a zany kind of humor involved with all the cows and anvils landing on people. Earthworm Jim falling out of his suit and his suit walking around without the worm attached to it. I feel like that part of Earthworm Jim can hold some appeal in the year 2019. I say this as a proud owner & completer of Earthworm Jim 3D :)

I'm surprised they hadn't heard Destiny is staying on B.net. It was announced the same day the deal was revealed, albeit as a twitter response.

It is my understanding that Twitch streamers have to put something mentioning #ad or #sponsored when doing a paid stream. The few sponsored streams I happen to watch, the broadcaster mentioned it several times. I guess it just depends on the person. But at the very least they at least need to disclose the particular segment is an ad.

Sorry to be out yet again, I was actually feeling more or less back to normal going into last weekend, then started coming down with a pretty rotten cold on Monday. Can't seem to catch a break this year.

Well that is what GB premium is for. You can pay them some money but there's no weird conflicts of interest involved.

I appreciate @jeff giving his insight over this. Was very thoughtful and really highlighted his years of wisdom and experience here. The coupling of publisher and #influencers/streamers/games media outlet with monetary compensation (no matter how indirect) just opens a can of worms that could be avoided.

Good catch about how higher paying games could influence what streamers cover and it becomes a weird race where the critical side becomes less of a factor in coverage.

Jeff saying saying the Venice area is okay makes more sense to me. My brother lives in that area so I’ve visited him a lot and it seems great to me. So anytime they would talk shit about LA it would always confuse me as modern SF sounds like an infinitely worse place to me BUT outside of the Venice area LA is definitely... a mixed bag to say the least. Jeff’s comments on this podcast at least made more sense to me.

Well I hope you're finally on your way to feeling better, @brad! This place isn't the same without The Shoemaker.

I wish they stressed the fact that every part of that Gearbox story is "alleged". I feel like every games outlet (not GB) is reporting this stuff as fact; a sensational headline is too hard to resist these days. I always love GB's nuance when it comes to stuff like this but I feel like they're jumping the gun on this stuff too early. Let's see what really happened when the dust settles.
