Overview
Shootout is a third-person shooter developed and released by Data East for arcades in October 1985.
As an unnamed agent, players must take on an underground criminal syndicate through various shoot-outs. It is an early example of the behind-the-back perspective, with players moving and aiming independently of a fixed camera. It also has an early example of both dodge rolling and cover systems.
The game later received a port for the Nintendo Switch, released digitally by Flying Tiger Entertainment on November 15, 2018 as part of the Johnny Turbo's Arcade series. This version was later included in the compilation Retro Classix Collection #1: Data East on October 1, 2020 (as well as the 2-in-1 Pack with Express Raider and the 4-in-1 Pack with Sly Spy, Wizard Fire, and SPD: Super Real Darwin).
