Originally a carpenter named Jumpman, this Italian plumber has gone on to become the most recognizable video game character of them all, starring in a veritable pantheon of titles like kart racing and sports. He has been voiced by Charles Martinet for nearly 20 years.
The Toad is a member of the Toad species. He is a loyal attendant of Princess Peach and often assists Mario on his journeys in a variety of ways.
Princess Peach Toadstool is usually the damsel in distress from the Mario franchise. She gets kidnapped frequently by Bowser, though she's not averse to being captured by various other villains from time to time.
Luigi is Mario's brother. He began as a simple palette swap of Mario, but was later differentiated. In his later forays, he provides comic relief.
Yoshi is a recurring character in the Mario franchise and has since gone on to star in his own games.
Schala is the Princess of Zeal in the 12,000 B.C. era of Chrono Trigger. Although she's a minor character, she is one of the primary links that connects the game to its sequel, Chrono Cross.
Zelda is the titular figure of The Legend of Zelda. She is most often depicted as the princess of Hyrule.
The embodiment of evil in the Zelda series, Ganon lusts after the Triforce and the ultimate power it affords its user. He often appears in his less monstrous form, Ganondorf.
Crono is the silent protagonist of Chrono Trigger. With his big hair, big sword and lots of courage, he and his friends are ready to save the world from Lavos.
Magus is the dark wizard waging war against Guardia in 600 A.D.
Wario is Mario's rival and doppelganger; a crude garlic-loving brute with an obsession with treasure. Wario's name is a portmanteau of the word "warui" ('bad' in Japanese) "Mario".
A boss in the Gnat Attack minigame in Mario Paint. He appears after you defeat 100 insects.
Undodog lets players undo their mistakes in Mario Paint and the Super Mario Maker series; it also became playable in the latter.
Introduced to the Mario series with Doki Doki Panic, Birdo is an effeminate dinosaur with a penchant for cute things. Although initially a boss enemy, nowadays she mostly appears as a friendly side character.
Efreeti is a sub-boss from Kirby's Dream Land 2.

The princess of the kingdom of Archanea that appears in several Fire Emblem games. She travels with Marth's forces and presents him with the Fire Emblem.
A mercenary and highly talented myrmidon that appears in several Fire Emblem games.
A dracoknight and the princess of Macedon that appears in several Fire Emblem games.
Aqualea is a mermaid with blue hair and a pink tail. She was featured in Wario's Woods.

Lynx is one of the main antagonists of Chrono Cross. His innate color is black.
Meidou is a mermaid from Wario's Woods. She looks similar to Aqualea, but may or may not be related.
Akuman is a boss from Wario's Woods.
One of the main characters in Chrono Cross. A member of the well known "Radical Dreamers" thieves guild. Her innate color is red.
