    M92F Custom Beretta

The Samurai Edge pistol was first officially introduced with the Resident Evil remake as an unlockable weapon. However it technically existed before its formal introduction, but under the generic name as the M92F Custom Beretta first introduced in Resident Evil: Director's Cut's Advanced Mode. It is otherwise most notable as Jill Valentine's starting weapon in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis' Hard mode setting. Its origins as a custom built handgun set ordered by Barry Burton designed by Robert Kendo--the gun shop own from Resident Evil 2--was also indulged upon during Resident Evil 3.

Though while it goes by a different name, its primary properties are still intact, by way of its faster firing speed and its possibility of scoring a critical hit, which in the case of a zombie would destroy its head completely.

    Resident Evil: Director's Cut

Labelled as an M92F Custom Beretta, this replaces Jill's standard beretta pistol (to which Chris will once again find during his playthrough) during the game's Advanced Mode. Its maximum ammo capacity is once again 15 rounds, only as mentioned above has a faster rate of fire and can score a critical hit.

While it cannot be found during the game's main story, in certain ports of Resident Evil 2 that include the Extreme Battle minigame Chris Redfield is an unlockable character, and comes complete with the Custom Beretta pistol. It retains all of the properties as before, only its fire rate is even faster, as is the chance to score a critical hit.

Here it is situated as Jill Valentine's default pistol, though only during the Hard mode setting. When playing Easy mode--the game's only other alternative--Jill begins the game with an M4A1 assault rifle and her Beretta pistol is removed from the game entirely.

While the beretta retains the faster rate of fire it's known for, its overall power output isn't as high, nor does it have a chance to score a critical hit anymore. Though this may be because there instead includes an unlockable pistol called the STI Eagle 6.0, which has a much faster rate of fire and a very high chance at scoring a critical hit much like the custom beretta from previous games.

    Resident Evil Remake

The first official introduction of the 'Samurai Edge' moniker, Though weirdly enough it is situated as an unlockable weapon, and Jill only begins with a regular beretta pistol like in the very original Resident Evil. Though in the remake remastering the beretta is shown be branded with the Samurai Edge logo.

Furthermore, this Samurai Edge is in fact Barry Burton's own unique model, though he is never shown to use it during the game itself. As it's an unlockable weapon it has infinite ammo; it also differs from Jill's M92F of the past in that it operates with a three shot semi-burst. Its power is slightly higher than the default beretta, and because it has infinite ammunition and can fire three rounds relatively quickly it can prove to be highly effective against most enemies and even bosses throughout the game.

Still continuing as the Samurai Edge, Rebecca Chambers' starting weapon is that of her own custom Samurai Edge beretta pistol. However its damage output is negligible and its rate of fire is relatively slow compared to previous iterations in the series. Billy Coen's own unique military pistol is in fact superior, as it can dish out more damage and has a chance to score a critical hit -- though only when in use by Billy.

An upgraded port of the very original Resident Evil, Jill's starting handgun is now officially referred to as the Samurai Edge and retains the same properties it featured in the Director's Cut, only it is now even more powerful and has a higher chance to score a critical hit. Its inventory icon has also been updated to reflect the look of Jill's Samurai Edge from Resident Evil 3, though the actual ingame model is exactly the same as the beretta pistol from the very original.

The Samurai Edge is the pistol weapon for many of the characters throughout the light-gun shooter -- Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Rebecca Chambers, and Albert Wesker to be specific. It has infinite ammo and, beyond the name and weapon icon, functions the exact same as the other handguns in the game; they all even share the same firing sound effect.

While it isn't available for use in the main game, Albert Wesker in his S.T.A.R.S. uniform has it available in the game's unlockable Mercenaries minigame. The DLC Mercenaries character Barry Burton also has access to a Samurai Edge pistol as well, however Barry's Samurai Edge model is shown to resemble his unlockable Samurai Edge pistol from the Resident Evil remake, only without its burst-fire function.

Due to the upgrades system it's difficult to compare against the other weaponry in the main game. Though when going by the Mercenaries' static weapon statistics, the Samurai Edge pistol is shown to be rather powerful; Barry's in particular can kill a common Majini in two shots and has the ability to pierce multiple enemies.

When fighting against Wesker in the main game he uses a H&K P8. Though during the cutscene onboard Wesker's jet nearing the end, he is shown to be equipped with his Samurai Edge pistol.

The Samurai Edge returns in this multiplayer-focussed spin-off. The Samurai Edge is arguably the most efficient sidearm in the game, as it features a reliable balance of power and firing rate.

Both Barry Burton and Albert Wesker once again have available their unique Samurai Edge pistols, only they are by default (without the benefit of the appropriate Skills set) significantly weaker than their RE5 counterparts.

Barry Burton's own custom Samurai Edge returns as apart of his repertoire, however like its reappearances in Mercenaries it no longer has the burst-fire and is semi-automatic. While it looks similar, it is in fact an updated model that was designed by Revelations character Quint Ketchum.
