Sabo is first introduced during flashbacks following Ace's death. It is shown that he was the adoptive brother of Ace and Luffy, who decided to set sail on his own before his brothers did. His ship was attacked by Jamack, a world noble and destroyed, leaving Ace and Luffy to assume he was killed. However, many years later, Sabo showed up again as the second-in-command of the Revolutionaries, as the number two man of Luffy's real father, Monkey D. Dragon. Sabo entered the tournament to win the Mera Mera Fruit, which had regrown after Ace had died. Under the guise of Lucy (which he inherited from Luffy), Sabo won the fruit and in tribute of his dead brother, utilized his signature move of "Hiken".
