It's arguably the one move that symbolizes the medium to those outside it. The ability to jump, be it onto a building, a platform, or a skull, is one of the all time most important abilities ever put in a video game.
A cross-platform video game engine.
Kill Stealing involves a player killing another player's target in order to gain his or her "prize". These include loot, experience points, a point score, etc.
A comparison between how many kills a player has made and how many deaths they have suffered. A staple of multiplayer FPS matches as an at-a-glance measure of performance.
A common type of stage based around the fire and/or lava element. Often platforming heavy and inhabited by fire-based enemies.
Rather than utilitarian names like "Level 3" or "Warehouse", many games give each level a unique title that has some relevance to its content.
The opposite of open-ended gameplay, linear gameplay uses scripted events, Quick time events, cut scenes, and a restricted path to tell a story exactly how the writer intends, and control elements of the action.
Whether it's for minimalism or a lack of artistic effort a lot of games use only the games logo as it's boxart. Examples would include all Final Fantasy's after VII in PAL and Japanese territories, Gran Turismo 3, Portal, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil, Metal Gear Solid and more!
A stylistic choice of employing small polygon counts for meshes.
Machinima is the concept of making a movie out of a video game. Popularized by the series, Red vs Blue.

Oftentimes developers will release the tools they used to create a title to the fans that play it. This Mod Support allows normal gamers to re-define their gaming experience and share their work with the public, promoting creativity and community.
A small, closed-off area in a game containing enemies that opens at some trigger point. Often used to surprise the player, or as an alternative to spawning enemies out of thin air.
When monsters in a game can turn on each other after an accidental injury and fight to the death instead of focusing on the player, or when some of the player's enemies also hate each other, and will attack each other on sight.
In many games, a player will move faster if they hold down two keys that move in directions perpendicular to one another. This happens because many games would process non-cardinal movement by simply performing a vector addition, meaning the player would go square root of 2 faster when moving diagonally.
Platforms conveniently moving you towards your destination to allow the crossing of large expanses which would otherwise be impossible to cross.
rockets that are grenades with the grenade launcher and rockets with the rocket launcher
"LAN" is short for "Local Area Network," which is exactly as it sounds. Setting up a LAN allows players to join together locally in multiplayer games through a small, computer network rather than through the internet.
Two player multiplayer with a good old serial cable. Make sure you set the Baud correctly.
No Clip is a command used to render the surface appearance of objects in the game environment while disabling their boundaries of collision detection.
Video games that were banned at one point in time but were eventually re-released as originally intended in the respective territory. May include games that are still banned in another territory.
Aiming with no ever-present marking of where a shot will hit.
A USB haptic mouse replacement peripheral. The name comes from the fact that the falcon is the predator of the mouse.
Ogres are large, grotesque, barbaric humanoid creatures. They are generally not very intelligent, but make up for that with their unmatched strength used to crush and maim their foes.
A circumstance in video games where the player will defeat large numbers of enemies without any assistance from AI or other players. This may occur for part of a game or the entirety of it.
Games which allow players to interact with others over the internet.
Open source games are games that have had their source code officially released to the public, allowing anyone to modify, distribute, and create ports of the game.
An open source 3D graphics API used in computer and console games.
Games that have had an Original Soundtrack album released.
