@sgtsphynx: Necronomicon was not great; on the low end of practical effects, which were the only memorable parts of it, for me. Mouth of Madness was great. And that ending...

I might also recommend Possession, though I haven't seen it myself, only heard good things. (Horror story where a woman leaves her husband for a Lovecraftian monster.)

@sgtsphynx: I'm no Klepek, buuuut:

  • In The Mouth of Madness - not a direct Lovecraft work, but very much a child of it (goes in WTF tangents)
  • From Beyond
  • Re-Animator - part goofy, part creepy; a movie the creators had fun with
  • Necronomicon: Book of the Dead - three horror shorts; meh.
  • The Call of Cthulhu - fan-made, professional-skill, shot in the silent film style of the era it was written in
  • The Whisperer in Darkness - also made by HPLHS, a well-adapted piece

And then there's: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0522454/?ref_=tt_ov_wr

Videodrome and Pet Semetary are on our Halloween movie list too! :D We do double features once a week, so our layout looks more like...

Dead and Loving It Night

Fright Night (original)

The Lost Boys

Returners Night

Sometimes They Come Back

Pet Sematary

It's Good To Be Bad Night

I remember getting an ultra combo once after hours of grinding away at the practice mode... good times.

@Artigkar: He played the butchest drag queen I've ever seen. At least Patrick Swayze and John Leguizamo tried to soften up a bit for the role...

Forgot to mention Fatal Frame 2 in there as well. ("Why do you kill...?") but the Amnesia part made me realize how interesting the game might have been (and how much more challenging) if the game had included a button for "close your eyes". With that mechanical inclusion, the players can be put into situations where they can choose, literally, to run blindly into the unknown in the hopes of avoiding madness or not having to stare at the ground while a ghoulie approaches. Also adds a measure of response input from the player for jump scares and horrific images that suddenly appear in front of the player.

Just a thought.
