Hey Jeff, hey Dan! I don’t mean to be that guy but you should both check out Death Note, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, FLCL, Bakemonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal, Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection, Fullmetal Alchemist, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, Paranoia Agent, Wolf’s Rain, Witch Hunter Robin, Darker than Black, Kill la Kill, Samurai Champloo, Afro Samurai, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ghost in the Shell 2nd GIG, Attack on Titan, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Z (original broadcast), Dragon Ball Super, K-On!, Lucky Star, Code Geass, Berserk, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, Bakuman, One Punch Man, Gunbuster, Diebuster, Neon Genesis Evangelion, End of Evangelion, Rebuild of Evangelion, and read the Pluto manga. And also maybe record All Systems Goku twice a week with 6 episodes instead of 5? I don’t think it’s too much to ask.
I'm gonna be that other guy and say there's a number of shows in here they definitely should not check out as it would push them even further away from anime. (Even if I personally enjoyed them) Dragonball Z is a very specific case of them seeing some neat things from FighterZ and wanting to find out more about it. It's been a fun surprise seeing them like the source material. We should really just leave it at that right now.
I do think they would enjoy the hell out of One Punch man though. But we're here for Dragonball, so I don't wanna be that guy too.
Glad you enjoyed it! Near the tail end of the original Dragon Ball at the moment, and I gotta say, as a die-hard DBZ fan growing up before getting disillusioned with it later on, the original kicks the crap out of all of its sequels, to the point where I'm hesitant to even go on to rewatch DBZ, Kai or original, because I'm afraid it won't measure up and I'll just start hating it in comparison.
It makes me sad to know that so many people have skipped that one in favor of watching the more popular one. It feels like the one Toriyama had the most fun with and the brightest vision for.
Dragonball is for sure amazing and I still have slightly more affection for it than Z or beyond to be honest. It was a bit more goofy, a bit more innocent and more set on adventure than Z ended being.
