Heck yeah I'm excited. I'm a lifelong Madden player. I run an annual Online Franchise (American Armchair League of America) each year and all the regular faces are getting amped up to start playing again after a couple months off. While not perfectly balanced, Madden 15 was one of the best Madden titles yet. Madden 16 doesn't seem to have those killer features, but it looks to be much more balanced than ever.

I'd highly recommend PS Plus. $50 per year gets you "free" games and discounts each month:

Current Free Games:

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Your action/adventure shooter)
  • Gravity Rush (Action/Adventure) (Not quite a platformer)
  • Wipeout 2048 (Your occassional racer)
  • Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP Game.) (Action/Adventure RPG)
  • Unit 13 (shooter)
  • Street Fighter X Tekken

I put "Free" in quotation marks only because it's a subscription service. You have access to the games as long as you maintain a subscription. You also get 1 GB of online storage of game saves if you ever have to transfer memory cards and discounts on sales.

Since this is your first Sony console, there are a ton of amazing PSOne games you have access to. If you don't use graphics as a hangup, they can be a blast to play all these years later. There's to many to list, but there are a ton of great RPGs from that era. Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, Tactics, and more.

The mic hookup is incredibly convenient. But online chat is just terrible in general. People hide behind the veil of anonymity on the internet and act differently than if they were talking face to face. When online, I'm usually in a party chat with friends grouped together in the game, or just going cross game.

Besides the obvious changes making enemies stronger, is there any real benefit to choosing the higher difficulty level? Since I normally play a bunch of RPGs I chose hard in the demo, and like the challenge, but is there any other reward for having to grind more, etc? Or should I just drop to Easy and max out the unlocks to transfer to the full game next month?

Was going for something stupid and funny. But you can take it seriously if you want. ;)
I also may have been watching Dodgeball. Dodge, Dip, Duck, Dive, Dodge when putting the league together. 'Murica.

Hey everyone, we at the American Armchair League of America are gearing up to start a Madden Online Franchise soon, hopefully by the end of the week. This will be the 4th annual AALoA league, and the 5th for many of the core group of guys to play together in. We focus on the franchise experience, and stay away from playing games with those lobby tactics that abuse AI shortcomings.

The AFC is mostly open in the league as most guys are fans of NFC teams, and it'd be great to find some new blood to inject more personality in the league. Players that can write recaps of games, and share with the league different things to tie the franchise together. We'll be playing on the All-Madden difficulty settings, but with modified sliders to balance the wide open passing game and make it a possibility for the CPU to upset the users if they have a CPU game.

If you have questions, I'm happy to answer anything. Post here, or better yet, join the forum and say hello. Meet the other players and get some lobby-bs-free games in.

There's a live chat box should you care to see if anyone is on the forum. But join the forum, sign up on the proper Madden thread, and let's have some fun.

I had just fired up the PS2 to play through FFX again and right when I got to Seymour for the first time, the Remaster was announced. I stopped right after and can't wait to play through it all again. Due to the PS4 release though, I don't think I can repurchase it on PS3. I will likely have to have my nose pressed up against the Vita screen this time around.

This will be the first console I've ever purchased on launch day. I've got the majority saved up already in a savings goal on SmartyPig.com so that I don't see the money in my bank accounts and won't be tempted to spend it on something else. I've started a goal of $700 to be finished by October to afford me a console, and a game or two. If it ends up costing more, I'll be flexible. May boost it another $50 or $60 to buy a second controller too.

For me personally, Remote Play would be epic for those smaller tasks that are part of RPGs and Sports games. I can recruit in NCAA Football or scout the draft class in Madden while watching Sunday Night football, and then have enough time to squeeze in a game before heading to bed. Or screw around with side missions or farming loot in an RPG while catching a show.
