Yup, for me it's that thought that I have this feeling I know I'm going to like and want to start it when I know I'll have time to not risk having to lose interest cause of life. Similar to that "perfect state of mind," bit.

Some times it's wanting to make the most out of it by having the right set up. Witcher 3 was one of the first games I bought when I built my first real gaming PC in 2014 and I put it off cause I didn't think my 980 was gonna give me the best experience. It's 2024 and I still have started it, loved it, but dropped it cause life had other exciting stuff going on. Never went back since cause I want to be confident I'll sink my teeth into it. There's just so many other toe-dipping games I've got going on that I just can't bring myself to start it.

Worst part is I put off starting other games because of the backlog of games I have put off.

My list of these exact scenarios is Witcher 3, Disco Elysium, Subsurface Circular, Dishonored 2. Feels like I'm never going to let myself start them.

After the word included in the third hint, I was positive I would never get it. My only guess was the third one I used that ended up being right, but I was so confident it wasn't it cause I hadn't really played through much of it at all and the picture was like nothing I'd seen in it. The color scheme and style was the only thing that popped that last real guess in my head.

Feel like bait-n-switch for the sake of bait-n-switch just aint it most of the time.

Like others said, if you're doing it to get a feeling of getting one over on the audience for whatever reason, you have to make the bait entertaining in its own right. If the bait-n-switch itself is part of the known appeal, as in the case of Invincible, where the generic-ness of the bait is part of "the joke," of the bait.. well then imo you gotta give the audience a small tease of the post-switch content so that they're allowed to be "in on the it," so to speak, or else you get people like OPs friend who truly felt the bait was just what the whole thing was.

@bigsocrates: You reminded me of something I was extremely grateful for in the game design. The game does a really good job of closing off possibilities that won’t solve your current puzzle. I can’t recall specific instances right now, but one example is making you use an orb that won’t help you to manage some other aspect of the puzzle, so no item is superfluous. I see a lot of puzzle games obfuscate their solutions unnecessarily by giving you too many options, and Cocoon sets the table with the minimum that you need. I wish a lot more puzzle games did this, it’s simplified without feeling hand-holdy.

This is my favorite part of the game's design. That it did this and the puzzles still felt puzzly enough to be just enough of a challenge to be satisfying to solve, is amazing.

I got enthralled by the game from the moment I started it. Love the minimalistic yet detailed visual design, and the audio was entrancing. There really wasn't a thing I didn't like about it and it's easily one of my favorite puzzles games as a whole package. It takes a mechanic and teaches you how it works in the most intuitive way, every single time it introduces a new one. And it builds upon the mechanics in the same way. Moment to moment, just a constant state of satisfaction. The different combinations of those mechanics throughout the game adding in complexity was just brilliant. It felt like a build up to a crescendo that delivered everything that the earlier experiences showed potential of.

5/5 and 10/10 for my personal rating.

Said to myself, "It's probably not this but it's the first thing that popped into my head and I have no other clue right now." That art style is just so engrained in my head lol

When I mute/unmute the video or even adjust volume, it also pauses/unpauses. Which is pretty annoying considering the videos start paused.

Whoa! This is a ton of fun! Being that I've been binging video game trivia shows lately (thanks Game Mess Jeopardy and MinnMax Trivia Tower!) this is perfect!
