Vinny's experience is so close to my own with FF7 and the split from Nintendo. I prefered the 2d stuff and I thought the game didn't look better. I eventually did play this game though. I did end up enjoying it, but it doesn't punch me in the nostalgia like FF6 or Chrono Trigger (some of the best games of all time).
@anominal: I appreciate you trying to defend the comment Jeff made. You're right, Superheroes aren't Jeff's thing. This is something the GBcast has shown again and again. I don't fault that. I took ill with the comment because both Jeff and Dan just got finished watching something they used to make fun of and hate on, something they now very much like, and as soon as something else came up which Jeff has only experienced through soundbites (like DBZ) or video games (like DBZ) Jeff did the same thing he used to do to DBZ. I don't know. I kind of hoped the gut reaction of a harsh comment might be quelled after experiencing something he went out of his way to avoid and then found out he liked.
It's a bummer. I doubt any person on here listened to this podcast with a hate for DBZ. This podcast was kind of a rediscovery for me and a couple friends on how ridiculous and wonderful that show was. For me, it was kind of awesome to listen to two people who really didn't know much about DBZ (regardless of the enormous amount of pop culture exposure) find joy in it. A lot of joy and fun. I actually stopped listening to most of the Giant Bomb podcasts because of how negative they could be about a lot of stuff. This show was not that.
Sadly, as soon as something new popped up (in the genre they jokingly claim to be experts in), it's equated to garbage... or dogshit... or just what DBZ used to be to Jeff, before he watched it.
This podcast may have ruined the whole podcast for me. I guess it's good that it's over.
For years Jeff has talked shit about anime and Dragon Ball Z only to find that after trying it, he actually really liked it. ... then "My Hero Acadamia" pops up as something to check out and Jeff's words are, "that looks like trash."
I got this game release day because it was on sale. I've been having fun with it. I will caution all those that play it, remember what it was like playing the Nintendo game. Pro-tips, the world map in the pause screen does tell you your objectives. Honestly, if they support this game and continue expanding on it, I have a feeling it will be one of my fav's this year. However, if you don't want to play an old school Nintendo game with a lot of new game sprite polish, it's probably best to pass.
Also I think the quicklook did the game justice. I wish Jeff had bought moves instead of cats but he probably still made the right choice.
