Games of the Year of 2014

The games I played this year that are pretty good list.

Some notable things that will be missing:

Assassin's Creed anything - I have grown sick of these games.

Any FPSes - I didn't play any FPSes not named Overwatch this year. And I only played a demo of that one for a few rounds.

Dragon Age - I want to play this eventually, but just don't have the time yet. Sounds like it would be worthy of a spot on this list if only I had played it.

List items

  • Stabbing Orcs in the face has never been this fun. The Nemesis system should get all the awards as this is basically Nemesis system the game.

  • Yep. Dota 2 is still here. The game is as confounding as ever and the hats continue to pile up. Yet, its still one of the most engaging and consistently tense gaming experiences ever.

  • What a breath of fresh air! This game FEELS like how want Dragon Age games to feel. It feels alive, unmerciful, and exciting. The story is a bit rote, but the combat has all the depth and strategy of the old infinity engine games and there really is no higher praise than that.

  • This game was probably the biggest letdown on this list. After the last game was so amazing, this one couldn't possibly live up to all that hype. Still the DLCs were quite good compared to the base game and the PC port wasn't complete garbage out of the bag! Progress! The game was actually pretty great (it is 4th on this list), just not AS great as Dark Souls 1).

  • A big move up the list for this one. I kept playing it all year and found myself enjoying the new Single player Naxxramas expansion and looking forward to the new Goblins vs Gnomes expansion due in December.

  • Almost a reason to own a Wii U by itself. That is about the best praise you can get.

  • I am so happy this game exists. Amazing art, a damn fine soundtrack, and some great controls make this one an easy addition to any list.

  • A damn fine interpretation of the show into an interactive format. Essentially a longer version of the show, which in itself is quite a feat.

  • This game came out on PC this year! THIS COUNTS! What a great way to play this game again, the PC port is fantastic. The game is exactly the way a remember it but with better framerates, near instant loading times, and higher resolution. A fantastic package for a game that too many people overlooked in its day.

  • I can't believe I'm saying this, but this made me actually want to play Diablo 3 again. After getting burned so bad with the original release, Blizzard went back to the drawing board with a lot of things and came out with an expansion that rectified many problems and also added a lot of great new ways to keep clicking.
