  • The pinnacle of the Reaper saga, in my opinion. Everything that made the first game good, plus a little tighter combat - and that final mission, hoo boy.

  • When I first played this, I had yet to play a single Legend of Zelda game - so the 'rote' formula of the Zelda games was completely lost on me. Instead, I just experienced an awesome game with fun puzzles, great combat and satisfying traversal mechanics. I would consider this to be one of my favorite games.

  • The birth of the maso-core genre? Probably not, but it certainly was one of the first games of that ilk to reach a more mainstream audience (me included), and I was hooked from that very first session. The tightly constructed levels, the precise controls, the cathartic release of finally beating a level and seeing all your previous, failed attempts play out in real-time... It's good stuff.

  • If Assassin's Creed II was the crystallization of what Assassin's Creed was supposed to be, Brotherhood is more of the good stuff. And also in my opinion, the last truly GREAT Assassin's Creed game.

  • While the novelty of the Galaxy concept had worn off after the first Super Mario Galaxy, the second one was still a great deal of fun. Then again, even the 'subpar' Mario games are usually better than most games out there. The only other negative thing I can think of is that I really didn't enjoy using the waggle controls.

  • As of the time of me writing this, in 2017, this is still the most recent character-action game I remember being really good. Memories are a bit hazy as far as the details are concerned - I don't recall too much of the specifics of the gameplay, just that it felt nice. Luckily for the game's sake, what stands out in my memory is the relationship between the two main characters.

  • A beautiful puzzle platformer if there ever was one. Great environments, great mood and (mostly) fun puzzles. While I don't hold this up as one of the greatest games of all time as some people do, I quite enjoyed it.

  • While I spent most of this expansion leveling alts and being social, I really enjoyed the changes to the world and the new zones. I liked the new races and I liked archaeology (me and three others). I did manage to do some raiding at the very tail end of the expansion and enjoyed those dungeons too. I wasn't there for most of the early rough patches, so I guess I just got the good bits.

  • BioShock 2 didn't live up to the hype created by the first game in the series - and how could it? It somehow curbs those expectations by going for something different - in this case putting a stronger emphasis on environmental storytelling which works very well. But the actual encounters and the bosses are a bit hazy. What stands out in my memory are the levels.

  • I have never really enjoyed the combat in the God of War series, something about it has always seemed kind of imprecise to me. The story isn't all that good either, but the things that do work for me are the traversal bits, the set pieces and the puzzles, which are all pretty good in this entry.

  • While a new take on the Lara Croft series, the isometric perspective lends itself well to this type of game. While I mostly enjoyed the puzzles and the traversal, I wasn't really sold on the combat (I never found a weapon I clicked with). Which is a shame, 'cause combat is a BIG part of this game.

  • I recently watched all of Twin Peaks, and watching that before playing Alan Wake seemed like the right way to go, seeing as Alan Wake is loaded with fun little references and easter eggs! While the story and setting are awesome, I kind of grew tired of the combat (which consists of mostly using the same tactics against the same few different types of enemies) a few hours before the game ended.

  • This is, in my opinion, how you remake a classic arcade game. That being said, I'm no Pac-Man aficionado. I've barely played any Pac-Man games other than regular Pac-Man and that weird PS1 action/platformer. It's a bit of a blur. I had great fun with this high-paced version of it!

  • I mostly enjoyed my time with this game, right up until the final boss fight when it turned out I didn't grind enough to get my characters all leveled up and ready. Maybe this is a staple of JRPGS and I'm just ignorant of it, but it kind of soured me on the whole experience. Rather than suffer through those hours of grinding, I simply set the game aside.

  • This game was what got me into watching Let's Plays on YouTube. Seeing people have a similar reaction to my own when playing through this waking nightmare was great fun. I don't know that this tops some of the other experiences because of the game itself or the fun I had surrounding it - both by watching LPs and having friends over to play it with.

  • While more Skate is always welcome, I feel like I'd rather be playing original Skate. This third entry has, in my mind, strayed a bit from what the core series is about.

  • Not being a huge Halo fan to begin with, the story didn't do all that much for me. That being said, I had fun just playing through the campaign with a friend, and even stuck around a bit for the multiplayer.
