Clearly i want to see what SWERY can do when he has the funding and man-power of an Electronic Arts behind him.

Why do I have to awkwardly mash the run button and hit jump with the same finger?

yeah that's a good question.

Also some of the 3d Mario games feel like Mario is skating on ice before he gets up to speed with his run. I'm not sure i enjoy that. It's not a huge detriment to the game, just always thought it could be different.

Dota is the current pinnacle of what a completely new sport can look like if you have to capture it in digital game-mechanics. Every aspect of the design matters. The time of day impacts gameplay. The terrain impacts gameplay. The amount of gold and experience gathered and how it's allocated over the team. The duration of the match. The amount of trees in the vicinity. The heroes on the playfield. The vision you have of said playfield. The invisibility-layer vision you have. The items you have decided to pick up. The creeps that are available on the map. Whether the fight takes place in the water or on land. Even the laningstage can be a struggle between one side trying to keep order, while the opponent tries to cause chaos. Or it can be a laningstage where both teams are equals and it's either a complete wash, or it boils down to creep manipulation and timing to get ahead.

And now for something different...

Gunz The Duel was one of the most dexterous free to play games we've seen. That game really gave you a great finger-work out on the keyboard and shredded the key-markings off in no time.

Either i dreamt this exchange in the last handful of comments, or it has exactly played out like this before on this very site :D

Spacetravel is neat and that being less reliant on russia and having re-usable rockets be part of the conversation is great. Ad-hoc solutions to deploy a working internet-connection has been important to Ukraine. These are very useful endeavors worth investing in. That doesn't mean that as long as you invest in these things, we should not criticize too heavily when someone's actions are worth criticizing. I won't get fined any less for driving too fast if i also mention that i donated to charity.

@borgmaster:

Cristiano Ronaldo takes icebaths constantly, trying to eventually be able to play sports underwater. Sadly, he's at the end of his career and still hasn't played sports underwater so that nerd is definitly a waste of time to care about.

this BORQ thing is a bad metric because the values will inherently change as the list grows. Also your ranking choices suck.

Also Borgmaster, you paragon of humanity, there were actually two Basketball games!

All hail the Blitzball and the power of the Jecht Shot. Being able to take out multiple opponents before the blocking phase is the ultimate power move in Sports.

The issue with Elden Ring in 5 years is that it's not all that easy to capture in one sentence. It's kinda doing the same style as you're used to from the Souls games... but it's easier to dodge boss-battles and it has a jump button? What is it really adding to the gameworld at large?

At least with Bloodborne you can immediatly point at the lovecraftian gothic style of that game as being refreshing. With Sekiro you can point at it being a parry-centric Ninja game. I haven't played Elden Ring yet so maybe there's a very obvious thing i'm missing from the coverage so far, but it mostly seems like a well-liked souls game that made the transition to an open world map with a mount.

@csl316: @inspectorfowler: Nitter helps with this issue.

Or you could use a browser extension like Privacy redirect to automatically open every twitter link into Nitter.

Sometimes i need to click a link 2-3 times for it to load properly in Nitter, but it's quite nice to have access to people's feeds without needing an account.

I really used to like the Brothers of Arms games because it felt like you were going through shit with these same guys.

In my mind i built it up as this Band of Brothers-type of experience, but sadly when i replayed the first 2 games a few years ago i realized that most characters are quite one-dimensional and most of them only have one or two character moments. But hey, it's still fun to see familiar names and see familiar faces join you throughout.
