The MindBullet GOTY Awards 2018

2018 was actually a pretty good year for me on a personal level. Mainly, I switched careers and started making enough money to live comfortably on my own while also having room for indulging in gaming more often. While I still don't feel like I have a huge amount of time to sit down and play, looking back on the year I did manage to get a decent amount of playtime in across a bunch of different titles.

So, here are some games I played!

List items

  • -MOST FUN TRAVERSAL AWARD-

Reminds me of what I loved about Saints Row IV, but better.

Web slinging is probably my favorite thing about the game, and everything about it is gorgeous.

Wish Peter had some Spidey Tunes to listen to, though.

  • -GAME SO NICE I BOUGHT IT TWICE AWARD-

Never played a Monster Hunter, but was always curious. Jason's love infected me and now there's no turning back.

Spent a lot of time with it on PS4, then bought it on PC and had a lot more fun as the Veteran Hunter to my brother and sister-in-law.

  • -GAME I ACTUALLY SPENT THE MOST TIME WITH AWARD-

What can I say? I've always got my phone on me, and work often involves downtime or days where there's literally nothing to do.

FGO has been easy to boot up and spend a couple minutes on in order to stay sane during the slower days.

  • -THE FIGHTING GAME FOR NON-FIGHTING GAME PLAYERS AWARD-

I've always liked the idea of fighting games more than playing fighting games. Except for Nightmare in Soul Calibur.

Not only does it have that, but it has a goofy character creator and more single player content than you'd think. Also, 2B is pretty fun in this.

  • -GAME I ALMOST FORGOT CAME OUT THIS YEAR-

It's not really Yakuza's fault, it's just that the latter half of the year has been pretty loaded with good games. Kiryu is still my favorite Punch Dad. Ono Michio makes a strong case for Best New Character.

  • -GAME I WISH I LIKED MORE THAN I DID AWARD-

This is the year I finally bought a Switch. This game was one of the reasons I did. I used to be the biggest LoZ fan ever, but...

Something about this just doesn't click with me. I just can't seem to enjoy it. I do hope to come back to it, but it's kind of a bummer.

  • -2019's 2018 GOTY AWARD-

I'm not the biggest Dragon Quest fan-previously only playing DQVIII-but DQXI definitely feels special.

The problem is with me and my bad track record with JRPGs. I did manage to get over halfway though, and intend to get back to it next year.

  • -I CAN'T REALLY THINK OF ANYTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY AWARD-

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's perfect, but it does feel like an experience where the game tells you what

it's going to do, sets out to do it, and just... Does it. As a contrast to previous God of War games and

as a standalone action-adventure, it's almost exactly what I wanted without really knowing what I was getting into.

  • -FAVORITE GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD-

I've been an AC fanboy for a while. I kind of fell off with Unity, but Origins brought it back stronger than ever.

That's all it really comes down to. Odyssey has it's faults, but overall I think it's a better game than Origins, so that's why it's here.

  • -GAME I WISH I COULD GET AWAY FROM AWARD-

My whole family is REALLY into WoW, and has been for years. They literally forced this expac on me for my birthday, and then cornered me to convince me to accept game time during the holidays. I don't hate it, I guess, and it's nice to play with family, but... Please release me.
