Whistle While You Work. 1

As much I hate the word, SteamWorld Dig is very much a Metroidvania style game. And it’s a beautiful blend of the genre with great mechanics from other indie games like Terraria and Speklunky. Exploration is the theme of SteamWorld Dig as well as it’s primary motivation. Instead of making the player build and create, you’re enticed to explore and find the world for yourself rather than build it. SteamWorld lends itself perfectly to the 3DS handheld by being easy to just pick up and play. Dig sit...

I guess they're games oh & Wario. 0

WarioWare is easily one of my favorite Nintendo series. They never fail to be fun, inventive and endlessly quirky. WarioWare: Smooth Moves make me fall in love with the Wii Remote in ways Wii Sports failed to do. Game & Wario, a Wii U title, is a set of 16 mini games all meant to display the uses of the new gamepad similar to that of Nintendo Land. Sadly, Game & Wario, is not a WarioWare title. If you’re expecting the fun, excitement and weirdness of WarioWare you will be left high and ...

New Coat of Paint. 0

It’s no secret that the Resident Evil franchise is one without focus, trading in its signature survival horror for grand action-adventure style romps. Resident Evil Revelations premiered on the 3DS sparking a return to form concentrating on the scares and anxiety that should be expected from this franchise. After Resident Evil 6 was panned by both critics and fans, Capcom reacted by porting Revelations for a wider audience. Revelations exceeds where 6 fails, giving a glimmer of hope for this on...

Movin' on Up. 0

Gone are the platforming elements of Mario Vs. Donkey Kong, Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move morphs the unusual subseries into a pure puzzler and an excellent one at that. Blending several classic puzzle mechanics, Minis hits the sweet spot for small downloadable eShop titles. The wide range of content and variety can easily match that of a full retail game with 180 stages and several game modes. Adding to that is a huge pool of user created content that is constantly growing and expandi...

Super Meat Boy for Nintendo. 0

Making a transition from mobile to console, Kung Fu Rabbit shows how well a game can go from the palm of your hand to the big screen. It’s a quick bit of entertainment and one that’s not too terribly challenging for newcomers to the genre. There are some quirks, and obvious design choices more geared towards that of mobile platforms but that doesn’t keep Kung Fu Rabbit from being an all-around decent platformer. Most importantly, Kung Fu Rabbit is a perfect example of how a small, smart phone ...

Back to the Grind. 0

I’m all for the retro revival video games have been experiencing in the past few years and I’m certainly an advocate for simplistic gameplay mechanics wherever possible. That being said, Witch & Hero hopes to encapsulate both of those ideals together, but being overly simplistic and with a cheap 8-bit aesthetic, it fails on all fronts. There is a story provided to give a reason for the gameplay, even if it is a simple one. A Medusa has attacked the land and you (the Hero) along with your side...

Not Mortal Kombat 9. Well, maybe if you want it to be. 0

InJustice: Gods Among Us. Just to get right down to it, this game is not Mortal Kombat 9. Well, maybe it is a little bit like MK9 but with DC characters. Actually playing the game feels vaguely familiar, but at the same time very different from NetherRealm's previous fighter. The unique movesets of the DC roster really makes your fighter feel powerful with every punch you land. Probably the most interesting addition to the MK9 formula in InJustice is the dynamic backgrounds. Stuff is always expl...
