Hey duders! A bunch of folks seemed to enjoy poking over these spreadsheets last year, so I just wanted to share that this year's iteration is currently underway now finished! 206 games across 60 top-ten lists are now compiled and tabulated. The scoring metric is completely meaningless and flawed but I think it makes for an interesting way to sort and organize the information and can show some neat patterns.

If you want to re-sort any of the lists, there are filters built in - you'll just need to click "File > Make a copy" to get a version with edit rights.

Each sheet has two tabs, the first page has all of the staff top-ten lists (and the guest top ten lists on some years), with the aforementioned totally made-up scoring system* to provide some vague sense of hierarchy. The second tab has all of the category awards, including the full lists of nominees brought up in the deliberation podcasts (except for some of the older ones, I need to go back and re-listen to those, unless somebody else has already compiled that info and would like to share.)

Enjoy!

*The Totally Made-up Scoring System awards points based on a game's placement in a list (10 points for #1, 1 point for #10, et cetera) and then a multiplier for how many lists the game is on to get the Adjusted Score. The problems with this are too many to go into but it works as a very kludgy way to organize both games that are highly ranked by a few people, and lower-ranked by lots of people.

The work-in-progress version of the 2015 awards has been started, if anyone is interested in keeping track of the runners-up and such as we go!

The top-tens page is a bit of a mess, I'll get all the formatting done once everybody's picks are entered.

Merry Game of the Year, everybody!

@s10129107: It's how many times the game was mentioned. I decided to use it as a mutiplier since a game one person ranked #1, but nobody else mentioned, would otherwise rank higher than a game nine people ranked at 10; basically I opted for ranking broad appeal over very specific appeal. As mentioned, it's incredibly arbitrary and largely meaningless, and is mostly an attempt to clumsily map the lists numerically.

Was anybody else keenly waiting for Kylo Ren to be named Jacen? I definitely understand why they didn't go with it (establishing that this is a unique character, yet still acknowledging the inspiration) but I was so ready for Han to shout out that name. I almost wonder if some draft of the script had Rey, Kylo, and Finn as the Solo gang.

@chekhonte: Well, most of them didn't play the game when it first came out. Patrick got into it late (he had only played for an hour or so when they finished Load our Last Souls), but now he's literally the Dark Souls Editor at Kotaku. Brad came to it similarly late, and Bloodborne is the first Souls game that Jeff didn't hate outright.

@tothenines: Jeff had Burnout at 2, Ryan is the one with MGS and GTA before it.

@rwbladewing: Haha, yeah I thought that was great too. He fought haaaard for that game. Part of why I found his responses to Alex calling the new Assassin's Creed just 'Syndicate' on the last podcast utterly hilarious.
