@larmer: You're not wrong - he totally did. But let's remember that this is the same Dan who said he'd eat an actual physical hat if he lost a bet and then tried to twist that so that he could eat a "hat" made out of Taco Bell.
@baldurs_great: "The cutscenes really were like watching an HBO show (and made me wish it *was* an HBO show)."
Couldn't have said it better. I ended up trading the game before I got to the end (was about halfway through and I intend to pick it up cheap later on), but through my entire playtime I was thinking "I wish this was a Netflix show because I would watch the shit out of it".
It's the first time I've played a game and found myself frustrated that friends and family who don't like games won't get to experience narrative and performances that I know they'd enjoy in another medium.
@mooseymcman: From what I've played (seven hours or so), the jank definitely undermines some of the otherwise excellent storytelling. It's a little difficult to take Lincoln's campaign of revenge seriously when cars occasionally decide to flip off into the air for no reason and people disappear into the ether.
It does sometimes get in the way of actual gameplay too. I wanted to raid a hideout by driving through the gates at high speed, only to find that four or five enemies and their cars hadn't spawned until after I was through - cue sudden death as I got shot by bad guys who hadn't been there seconds before.
All that said... I can't stop playing it. And it's pretty damn funny when stuff goes wrong. I was wandering around a factory the other day when a blood fountain sprang out of the floor for no reason.
