Huge Rush fan here! Went to their last show ever (as far as we can tell) and paid a lot for nosebleed seats! I will write here what I personally told Dan Ryckert to his face at the LA Podfest...
..."I don't blame you. Rush and progressive rock/metal is the Anime of the music scene".

EDIT!: And what I mean about Anime is that it's awesome as well. Coming as a guy who grew up on Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing, and Tenchi Muyo I totally get what made those shows bad ass (and why in retrospect they have faults), but then fandom happens and if it turns to "well you guys suck, this is the epitome of *insert type of art here*" then it becomes asinine.
I love Rush, but BOY! Try explaining Cygnus X-1 and Hemispheres to somebody without them looking at you like they should call an emergency hotline for a loon on the loose. lol
