Gameplay > Story = Visuals

Generally gameplay trumps all by a high margin, but I will say that when looking at games that I play for +100 hours (strict PVP games no included) I need to have a really strong attachment to the character I'm playing as to keep on going. I can think of a lot of amazing games that I stopped playing 20 hours in (Witcher 3) because I just was tired of the trappings of the character, while spending +100 hours in games that are arguably bad (Pathfinder Kingmaker) because I love my character and their effects on the world.

@justin258: I'll come forward and say I've only played the demo of Octopath Traveler, but having a character who is restrained, humiliated, and held back because of her gender (being used as a prostitute, abused sexually and physically because she presumably couldn't find another profession to let her get where she needed to be in life), and then having her special interaction with the world be """""charming""""" people is incredibly fucked up. Forcing her to use the thing that's holding her life back to advance in the world is something that crosses a lot of lines that I am not at all comfortable with, coming from a game which doesn't at all acknowledge the lines that it's attempting to cross. I don't really care if it gets better later, but presenting Primrose in that light from the get-go is so ignorant and gross that it immediately killed any interest I had in the game.

This sounds like a common trope seen countless times in Western stories, and one that I actually think makes for compelling characters. The character you describe here is identical to Maeve from Westworld.

Why is battlefield different than every other video game (and in general Hollywood's) portrayal of real wars?

Very few tackle the darker themes of war because it would be a terrible affair that few would want to play for any length of time. In terms of other games trivializing war, Call of Duty just did this and Dynasty Warriors was founded on the idea and has been doing it for a decade without a single person batting an eye. I don't think this is a nuance discussion at all, I think the WW2 backdrop is hitting too close to home for you and clouding your judgement on just how restrictive your believes would be on video games as a whole.

In terms of the worrying over chat moderation, IMO the best moderation is the ability to turn it off if you don't want to see or hear it. This isn't a team game where communication is needed for success, you don't need to talk to your opponent to play.

In terms of the buy-only monetization system I think people are only focusing on the value not on the community/game implications. Games need natural progression systems to feel rewarding long term, skill progression alone is not enough. If you can't earn cards what are the long term hooks and incentives to get people to play this game actively for years? Also without the ability to naturally earn cards overtime through playing, how do you experiment with decks? It feels like a system designed around going online looking up the meta and buying the cards you need to do it, there is little to no incentive in experimenting.

The other part of this game that has me concern is amount of luck that exists. It's far more than just turn and draw order, your first 3 heroes are automatically assigned random lanes and are hard to move once placed; creeps randomly spawn in all 3 lanes and in the smaller areas of lanes; attacking priority is somewhat random; some spells are hero-specific so can't be used when needed; items are random. Some amount of luck is healthy for replayability, but too much will make this game uncompetitive.

Buriedbornes takes a while to understand all the mechanics but is a surprisingly deep dungeon crawler with no money needed.

Magium is a choose your own adventure novel that is pretty great and quite long at this point.

Expected a stupid post arguing that clothing is ultimately just practical and everyone should dress identically, instead the post is why can't we just change human nature? .... because we are humans and its in our very nature. Humans will inherently group and categorize everything, if not in regards to gender, it will be race, wealth, personal preferences, age, etc. You will never be free of judgement for what you wear.

Also you are more than welcome to dress however you want, but people have every right to judge you for it, which if you want that to change takes you down a very dark road of behavior/thought control.

Blasphemy!

I actually didn't enjoy the Witcher 3 as well, but that is because it wasn't a good fit for what I was looking for in an RPG. That being said, I'm concern you can't understand why this game is considered a masterpiece. I think you are looking at the game in the wrong terms. It isn't a game with fun and interesting mechanics, it is a game that is 100% built around story, characters, and world-building, which it does top notch. At its core, it is you inhabiting another person's life and having to make all the difficult decisions that not only tangibly affect the people around you but also the fate of the world. CD Project Red did a great job in this, giving you meaningful and tough choices, good ties to the people around you and like Efesell said the world building is next level, even unnecessarily so. Take for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyKsC3bklIE, a fully voice song about the love of your life, that you just encounter in a tavern (no real story attached to it), because ... CDPR is crazy in their level of detail.

Honest questions:

How is the report verified? How does it prevent someone simply banning another player by lying? How is this more effective than just a simple mute?

Have you played Guild Wars 1? Might be worth checking out.

Is that game still up and running and does it have an active community?
