Been listening to Jeff and co. since the HotSpot, never missed a single episode of the Bombcast. This was quite the jaunt down memory lane. Thanks for the last decade worth of entertainment.
Wow, having to pay $20,000 in taxes on a free thing sure make the USA and Taco Bell seem really shitty. Sounds like you really got fucked over Dan.
Eh, it's not at all surprising and he should have expected it. I'd be willing to bet the country you live in would charge tax in the same situation. Otherwise people would be habitually "gifting" money to each other as an easy form of tax avoidance.
Not in Canada. CRA only taxes you on forms of income, which lottery winnings and the like are not part of. IIRC US is different, something about being taxed on changes in wealth or something.
Bought the coin. I've spent enough time on this silly website to throw ~$20 CAD at a small keepsake to put on my shelf to remind me of all the time I've spent on this silly website.
The American tax system is bonkers, clawing back money from Dan for a gift with questionable monetary value is just so weird.
Add to that you pay tax as on lottery wins as if they were earnings... The UK lottery system where the government is taking their cut from ticket purchases rather than from the winners seems way better.
Yeah in Canada lottery winnings and other kinds of windfalls aren't taxed either. For the longest time I always assumed they were, but I guess that was the US tax system rubbing off on me.
@redhotchilimist: I've been mostly watching a bit of Super, and I thought that show looked fine. But then I watched a comparison video that was ripping Super for its shitty animation by comparing it to Z, and man, the older hand drawn stuff just looks so much nicer.
