The Dragon Age series and to some extent Mass Effect (at least the first one) all have elements from KotOR combat in them, but they're not exactly the same.
Thought I'd throw in my opinion here for a different perspective...
As someone who was introduced to the series via Fallout 3, I'm having a blast with Fallout 4 right now. Survival mode really should've been in there from the start (settlements become more important for one). I also enjoyed New Vegas far more than 3 due to the superior writing and setting, but I still enjoyed Fallout 3 a whole lot. There just aren't enough games out there like the Fallout series.
At some point before 4 came out when I had hundreds of hours between Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I tried to go back to Fallout 1 & 2. They are impenetrable for me, the outdated UI and mechanics make the game a real chore and I couldn't even bring myself to play it enough to get to the good parts that people keep raving about.
I really enjoyed it! Played three or so hours of the open beta today (friend got me a key for early access)
I played mostly supports, with Lúcio being a clear favorite. The hammer-swinging tank was fun too when you managed to pin-kill someone. I usually don't get into class-based team shooters (or whatever this is classified as), haven't gotten deep into one since Gotham City Impostors (man that was fun for a while) - but I'll most likely buy this!
I love everything except the timers, both in-mission and on the map (global game over thing). I modded out the mission timers but can't find a good mod for the map one.
