I feel like I see too many people criticizing the last of us. More than any other game, TLOU2 is exactly what it needs to be. If any of it were changed, especially its relentlessly grim nature, it wouldn’t succeed at doing what it’s trying to do. I get not LIKiNG TLOU2. But I feel like it has to be exactly what it is or it wouldn’t have succeeded in realizing its purpose.

Greg Kasavin is one of those people who gets better looking as he ages. People like him get the last laugh because people who were good looking in jr high and high school often turn into monsters after 30.

Abby did what I want a “videogame person” to do: have games you passionately like, don’t be afraid to call stuff you don’t like bullshit.

Thanks Abby.

@mostlysquares: I agree about the annoying stories of people who get sick playing VR. People ALSO got sick when Doom came out. I had LOTS of people tell me they couldn’t play it because of motion sickness. But that was never allowed to become THE DOMINANT headline about Doom, because SOME people had no problem with it and it was absolutely amazing.

I think we are reaching a tipping point though. The psvr sub reddit was flooded with “I was anti-vr but now I tried it and I love it!!” Posts during lockdown. I think we are reaching the point where people will start ignoring the haters.

It just sucks that the industry has become so risk-averse and has suck Stockholm syndrome for retreads of the same-old-thing that it takes 5 years now to introduce something new. The industry used to be full of people who liked new tech JUST BECAUSE it was new.

YES!! FINALLY somebody at Giant Bomb has good things to say about VR. As a mostly VR-only player now, I was really getting tired of the CONSTANT crapping on the most advanced technology in the industry right now. Once you do certain things in VR, it makes other attempts or implementations of things seem outright stupid.

I’m sad abbey didn’t get a Quest though. With as much as she liked Rimg Fit Adventures, there is a whole, much more serious world of fitness/active games out there. I literally burned 1000 calories in one session of BoxVR(for an achievement) and it never once felt like work. It was fun the whole time.

@foggen: THANK YOU. The woke Imperials are the single worst thing about Disney Star Wars. I love the rebels being multicultural. I want the imperials to be a bunch of old, frail, pasty British men.

Whatever you want them to signify, nazi’s, the crown, the establishment... it underserved the premise for them to look identical to the Rebelion/Alliance. That’s just bad design.

As for Squadrons, I think it’s great. It’s a game we have needed for a very, very long time and I hope E.A. makes more similarly focused games. Every game doesn’t need to be “everything and the kitchen sink”.

@gameroulette: as some who played games through the era, I definitely noticed that Warcraft changed game reviews for the worse because it was the first time that game reviewers started dictating what games should be made, that I noticed. Before War raft, most strategy games were turn based. After Warcraft, reviewers started demanding ALL strategy games be real time, even marking games down for NOT being real time. This is the climate that forced X-Com to go from turn based to real-time in X-Com 3: Apocalypse despite nobody asking for it or wanting it. It took until the Xcom remake just a few years ago for the industry to even try it again in turn-based form, which is the right design for the game.
