I don't really disagree with anything in the review, but something in my gut tells me three stars seems a little harsh. I guess I just enjoyed the systems more even as they started to get stale at the end; I ended up tackling all but the 'extreme' challenges and getting a perfect on everything but the final boss.
He's right about the combat in the last half of the last world, and the puzzles in pretty much most of the game. Just obnoxious drudge that gets in the way of the really fantastic encounters. Honestly, firaxis could probably learn a thing or two about how to make soldier movement in xcom more interesting from this game.
@devise22: Kingdom Hearts has always used a shitload of like LEGIT voice actors - Christopher motherfucking Lee is in Kingdom Hearts 2, for example. There's also the fact that like, I am pretty sure Mandy Moore and Haley Joel Osmont are Kairi and Sora (that was a big deal at the time (I have no idea if either of these people have careers anymore)).
EDIT: Wait it was Hayden Panettiere as Kairi. Mandy Moore is Aerieth.
I guess Hayden Panettiere has a career still. I still have no idea what the other two are doing.
They also got a ton of the original voice actors/actresses from the Disney movies, including most of the villains like Jafar, Oogie Boogie, Hades, and Ursula, and even the actress for Alice (and Wendy) even though this game came out over fifty damn years after Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan.
The game also features Lance Bass as Sephiroth even though he has no spoken lines outside of battle and is an entirely optional boss.
That's really the only thing frustrating me about this series so far, is there was so much care put into the earnest bullshit that is in this game. I would love to see the guys have fun making fun of it, but acting bored with it is just boring.
@xeiphyer: Tarzan world is either the second or third world depending on how you do the order, Alice in Wonderland or Hercules are the first two options. I actually think Tarzan world is fine, and Alice in Wonderland is easily the worst one.
I really think this game only gets better the further you get into it and it actually holds up remarkably well for a game of its era (obviously that depends on how you feel about disney and how you can cope with a very cheesy and melodramatic anime story).
