I mean... they don't need to. That's a depressing answer from a creative point of view but they have Steam the worlds most popular storefront for PC. Pretty sure DOTA still just passively prints money as well.
I'm finally finding some time to put into this (Thanks Infinite Wealth/Rebirth) and I just sweeped a Tartarus mid-boss thanks to Mitsuru using Marin Karin and it felt like I won a dozen forum arguments I was in 15 years ago.
Toriyama was one of those guys I was sure I'd be on my goddamn deathbed and he would still look the same and be complaining about how he trapped himself into another difficult project to work on.
@brian_: Well the answer here can definitely be Both.
As to anyone else ever doing this, in (relatively) recent memory I can think of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which sold a huge standalone expansion pack for $40. It was really good.
Rise of the Ronin notably ditching the loot system, last I heard. Unless that was just rumors. I thought it was a recent announcement though.
I dunno, I enjoyed Wo Long quite a bit but it has a great parry and that always wins me over. Neither it or FFO lived up to Nioh 2 though which is what I'm waiting to happen again and will see if Rise manages it.
I just love the ambition of the Trails narrative such that I forgive a lot of little failings here and there. IV juggles a lot, drops a few, but the end result was still really impressive.
I just need whatever writer that’s such a huge harem anime fan to take a series off now. They let him cook for 4 games nonstop.
