I can't decide who is dumber: the people who think that Overwatch has very much original to "steal" besides Blizzard's usual polish, or the people who think that you can steal ideas and then implement them in your 3D multiplayer shooter being developed simultaneously and then release 4 months later.
Hi-Rez is getting a raw deal from a community that used to be a lot savvier about what goes into these things. (Now, people pissed about Tribes on the other hand have reason to be scornful...)
I'd be a lot less :T about the whole thing until I saw the weapon models were designed to look like the Overwatch variants. That's...uh...something.
@focant I had to stop when I saw the not-Torbjorn's gun, it even has the little fiddly part on the side that wiggles around like on Torb's gun. It's more than just a passing resemblance. An homage is one thing, but that's way, way, too close to copying something.
PS
As someone who played and loved Tribes: Ascend, ~*fuck hi-rez*~
@lonelyspacepanda: While I find the behavior of the_donald pretty childish and lame, especially for the main community for a presidential candidate, I don't agree that it posts racists/xenophobic propaganda.
I think you're just plain wrong here. You can look at the links I posted above your comment and that's just minimal examples I found of pure racism in the_donald. And that was just for African Americans. The xenophobia, sexism, homophobia and racism there is extraordinary and the main thing is, it's being upvoted. This isn't some case of a few horrible comments getting quickly buried and rebutted like what happens in most subreddits, it's fucking rampant in that subreddit.
@austin_walker Although our time together was short--and by time together I mean me ogling you from across the fucking country--I thought you were a dynamite addition to the GB crew. I guess Jeff and Co. knows how to pick them, but I am extremely stoked that I got some of your meaty insights into how things are the way they are in video games. You're a good dude, and I hope that you have an incredible time over at VICE.
@hadoken: Seems like it's gonna be the start of a series of articles.
Yup! Nearly all of the guest writers we're bringing on will be sticking around and appearing at least once every month or two. For some, they'll write on disparate (or at least, distinct) topics, but for others, they'll be able to slowly build an increasingly detailed or nuanced argument. This is part of the great thing about the Giant Bomb community: We really are a community, and it's a community with (pardon the rhyme) continuity. That means that when Ian returns sometime in March to write more, that new article will be able to build on some of the ideas presented here, confident in the knowledge that the reader will have already seen this piece (or at least be interested enough to dig it up!)
Dope.
@pontoon_yacht: I agree with that sentiment wholeheartedly. It seems like management is using labor as a bargaining chip of their own when they say "look at all the people who are just chomping at the bit to work here." They seem to be fostering the sort of environment where everyone is a potential threat, so there's no cohesive attempt to try and get conditions that any sane person would demand from their workplace.
@zombievac: Panda Express is an American take on Chinese food. I made a portmanteau of Chinese and American, and I hope it didn't come across as a slur!
