Jeff said it himself, he was going to leave anyway. So anybody who wants to believe he would have stayed at Giant Bomb forever if it weren't for those evil RV people is living in a fantasy land.
I don't want to be mean here but the writing was on the wall for a long time. Jeff had sounded burnt out for a long time and I really think it was hurting the product. He has always been cynical and to a point I respect that, but to me it increasingly sounded that he just didn't like anything because he was personally in a bad place. But this is what almost always happens to people across all industries that stay in the same position for too long. When was the last time Jeff took a vacation, and I mean more than one week? And then he has to raise 2 kids in a pandemic? It sounds like Jeff is in a far better place now that he gets to work on things that he is excited again. So it sounds to me this thing has worked out for both parties.
I agree with much of this. I love much of what Jeff does but he was struggling to keep up any energy beyond the first 30 seconds of a podcast. He wasn't a part of any of the new shows at all, just Bombcast and Dump Truck for the entirety of the revamp after the Nextlander crew left and even with that he wasn't able to bring much energy. Always talking about being tired, dealing with baby sleep schedules and working from home stuff. It's actually been a growing problem since around the time he had his first child. All Systems Goku is the last hurrah of younger Jeff. Listen to that now and it's almost a night and day difference between how he is now. Full of energy, jokes and insight. I'm glad he seems to be doing better now that he's solo, though. Best wishes to him.
The only thing I knew about the new G4 is that Abbey took a job there. I never tuned in and was not sure who it was for. Too bad it didn't work out for people who worked there and I hope they can get some new work lined up quickly.
I bought a Vive not long after release. The games were really interesting, but I could never get myself to spend a crazy amount of time using it. Some of the magic falls off pretty quick once you start seeing and understanding the limitations. One look at that leg video and you can tell it's nonsense if you have even a small amount of that familiarity.
I saw the thread title and got curious about it. Forgot it was mine lol. Instead of talking about a great series from our 90s childhood that we got to relive through other's eyes, this thread now provides a way to relive 90s internet forum arguments from when we were 14 years old in the 90s. What a time. Thanks!
Lot's of assumptions about what went on behind the scenes here. I loved Jeff on the site, but let's be real here about what we have actually seen. He hadn't been a part of any new content on this site this last year. He only showed up on the Bombcast and UPF and an incredibly rare solo stream. He's been tired and talks a lot about sleep issues. His speech and mannerisms remind me a lot of how I had and have difficulty acclimating to life as a father of two children. There is a very real possibly that he's been done for a very long time. I'm just happy that he looks to be a bit more energized then he's been for the better part of a few years and that the current staff on the site seem to be having fun.
Electrician here. I use a lot of Eaton and Tripp Lite units for work. When you're in the market for the smaller, home user versions they're a lot more dependable than APC or Cyber Power in my experience. Change that battery out between 2 to 3 years for the best results. They can swell up so large that it's difficult to remove.
