I’m hyped for the DLC and look forward to watching Jan make his way through it. I think it’s the best single DLC release FromSoft has made for one of their games, though it’s tough as nails and has I’d say 4 of the top 5 hardest bosses in Bloodborne (excluding the chalice dungeon bosses). It also has hands down my absolute favorite boss fight score in all of Bloodborne, which is the theme to the first boss of the DLC.

Jan, just so you know, the DLC can be accessed fairly early on in the game. It’s open to you after the fight with Vicar Amelia so if you had accidentally moved past the point of no return it would not have been that big of a deal to complete the game, go into NG+ and then get to a point where you can access the DLC again, but the DLC in NG+ is much harder than it is in NG.

Jan, you’re doing great. Certainly better than I did on my first playthrough. This NPC hunter is the hardest npc fight in the game and I honestly have never been able to best him in a fair fight. I usually end up exploiting a quirk in his AI attack patterns that I discovered by accident. Whenever the hunter starts slowly walking toward me, not running toward me, I found I can fully charge a heavy weapon R2 attack and, if I get the timing right, he walks right into it. He dodges this attack when he’s running so I just keep away from him until he starts doing his slow walk toward me again.

Jan, I encourage you to keep playing this series if you find yourself hooked by this game. Even though I’ve played through Bloodborne multiple times I still really enjoy watching others experiencing it for the first time.

As for the 90% estimate of how much of the game is left, I’d say that it is an accurate and inaccurate assessment. Without giving too much away, I’d say that half of the content in Bloodborne is optional (maybe even more than half). So you’re 15~20% along in the main quest/story, but a little less than 10% along if your goal is to face every boss and complete every area.

When the format changed for game of the year to make the first few podcasts a game-by-game year in review, I liked it because it does allow every game to get into the discussion. However I do miss some of the categories that fell by the wayside.

In particular Best Moment of the year and Hottest Mess (or whatever equivalent). I liked that Best Moment gave games that were light on story recognition in the way they engaged the player and I liked how Hottest Mess garnered discussion about the state of the games industry as a whole (for instance I would have liked to hear them discuss things like Riot’s employment equality problems and Blizzard banning the Hearthstone player for speaking out in support of the Hong Kong protests).

Perhaps in the future they could either include some wider games industry news commenting in their year in review section or maybe try to shorten the year in review to 2 or 2 & 1/2 podcasts to squeeze in one or two more categories.

Also it would be nice when they are doing their game-by-game year in review to list each category the game currently being discussed is nominated for (if someone feels the game belongs in a category).

@benpack:

I recommend following this diagram to easily tie a strong form shoe knot: https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/standardknot.htm

Interesting that site has Dan’s and Ben’s way of tying laces, https://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/twoloopknot.htm. It also said the end result of both methods is identical.

I think Ben’s issue is that when he pulls on one end of the laces to untie the knot, the other free end of the laces is resting inside a loop and as a result that free end is being dragged by the loop that he is reversing through the knot and ends up blocking the loop from untying. This happens to me in some of my shoes with long laces.

Just to confirm what Alex said, Mind Palace is a term that’s not Lovecraftian in origin. It is a method of storing memories. Basically people create a imaginary space like a house or palace inside their heads and then populate it with objects (which could be paintings, pieces of clothing, furnature, basically anything), each object is added when a person adds a new thing they want to remember and therefore it tends to be an object that strongly symbolizes that memory so it makes it easy to recall. This method of memorization can apparently work really well, so long as the person using it sets aside the time every day to walk through their mind palace and recall each object to keep things fresh in their head.

I’m sure I’m over simplifying here and getting a few things wrong, but that’s the gist of it.

@sweetz: You can do all of the Soulsborne bosses solo. Summoning other players in to co-op bosses can make them easier, but it’s never mandatory. (Summoning for boss fights also increases the boss’s health pool, so soloing bosses can in some ways be easier depending on how you approach the fight).

Weird that it’s a prequel, yet Peyj say Jade’s name so its clear he already knows her. Did they meet each other before the events in this teaser?

I wonder if this is going to be a prequel and also a sequel? Maybe the events in this teaser are present day, but the majority of the game’s story and gameplay will be flashbacks to past events.
