To all Australian gamers or visitors during June 28th and October 28th, the Australian Center for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne will be hosting the Game Masters Exhibition.
So if you're not excited or convinced already by the idea of a video games exhibition or you want to know what it is, simply put, its a massive exhibition dedicated to video gaming. Featuring hand-on things of course, games put within a historical context (do you like wiki's and museums), public talks (Q & A sessions) from game makers and journalists, as well as a bunch of other things that haven't been announced yet.
The exhibition will be divided into three sections: Arcade Heroes, Game Masters and Independents.
Some of the announced games on exhibition and works by designers will include Tomohiro Nishikado (Space Invaders), Ed Logg (Asteroids), Toru Iwatani (Pac-Man), Yu Sukuzi (Hang On), Paulina Bozek (SingStar), Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear), Yuji Naka (Sonic the Hedgehog), Fumito Ueda (Shadow of the Colossus), Alex Rigopulos (Guitar Hero), Tim Schafer (Full Throttle) and Warren Spector (Deus Ex).
The independent developers showcased will include Jenova Chen (Flower), Matsaya Matsuura (PaRappa the Rapper) and Australia’s Rob Murray (Flight Control).
Tim Schafer and Peter Molyneux have been confirmed to attend the event and will be doing their thing. I recommend going during the first week for the seminars and talks.
Because gaming related events here in Australia fall under the radar most of the time, and lets be frank here; most of the time, whenever an event is held, they're underwhelming for a number reasons, mainly due to resources and public interest. I believe that this will truly be the exception. Come-on, even Tim Schafer's bothering to showing up.
