I bought this at launch but ended up giving it away to an in-law a two days later when the limitations of the multiplayer became apparent. Specifically, there can only be two Switches on the same team online, so if you want four human-controlled players, you need two pairs of people. Moreover, there's no way to play four people against the CPU unless all four are local. All that being the case, no thanks, I'm not interested. Nintendo's lackluster online play options strikes again.

Really wish this was on Switch.

Yup. That would indeed be nice. For now at least it also works well on the Steam Deck for a portable option. But clearly the Switch has a larger install base.

They may still port the game to Switch and/or Playstation, but unfortunately there are no guarantees. The dev addressed the issue on the Steam forums here.

For reference, the original first showed up on Steam in 2013 and it took them a year to port it to Playstation platforms, two years to get on Xbox, and five years to get on Switch (with the caveat that of course the Switch didn't even exist when RL1 was released). Fingers crossed that they get around to it eventually.

Will try to take time out of my busy schedule of Rogue Legacy 2 to watch this.

This game RULES.

Damn straight.

Actually, I'm finally taking a bit of a break to play the recently released Salt and Sacrifice, after investing 238.3 hours in RL2 and completely maxing my castle upgrades (apparently max level is 5,332, for what it's worth!), though I still need to take all classes to XP level 50 in order to have truly maxed everything.

In the meantime, I actually started a new game in a separate slot so I could play again from scratch on the 1.0 version. Yeah, that's right, I played over 200 hours and started over. That's how much I like this game.

RL2 would be my game of the year in most years, but sadly this year it has to compete with Elden Ring, so I think I have to relegate it to 2nd place.

I've been looking forward to this one. Loved the first game (not to mention The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile). James Silva is a super-impressive dude, basically making these games all by himself.

On a side note, it's sort of baffling to me that I'm still not able to buy this on the PS store. I can wishlist it, but not pre-order it like I can most other games. I mean, it's a week before release, just let me buy the damn thing.

This is so good, the closer giantbomb gets to this kind of authored content the better, not that casual crew isn't great, but with the loss of everyone in the same room, this is an amazing way to go

People might throw tomatoes at me, but this is probably what more quick looks should be like. In 2009, getting a couple people in a room to give some offhand commentary about a game was a bit more rare. The novelty of "stripped down" and "off the cuff" coverage was refreshing. Now it's incredibly common.

I think both of these comments together are exactly right. It's impossible to have the same group chemistry when you're doing everything remotely. Given this, a larger focus on more scripted stuff seems to make some sense, until and unless the notion of staff being in the same room together can be reclaimed. I'm not saying group QLs should go away completely or anything, but the relative ratio of scripted vs off-the-cuff content could stand to be adjusted.

@atheistpreacher: You get to play that in-between section yourself in the real game.

And you're sure about this? You've seen it for yourself? Because the fact that the demo lets you carry over progress to the main game makes me think they aren't skipping anything. Why would they let you play later levels and then you get to the main game and have to go backwards to see content you missed by playing the demo?

@tartyron: I would argue that the combat isn't actually trash, though it seems less compelling than it did nine months ago... partly, I think, because they significantly tuned down the difficulty, even on the highest setting. I remember it being tough but fair on the normal setting previously, I had to really buckle down and pay attention to the game's various combat mechanics to make it through that first level, but for this demo I breezed through it on hard.

It seems they felt pressure to reduce difficulty even on the high setting to accommodate the Final Fantasy crowd who aren't used to tough Team Ninja action games. So there's some interesting systems there, but the game doesn't push you hard enough to fully engage with all of it. The reason I'm willing to give it a shot at half price down the line is that there's enough promise in the combat to still be intriguing to me if the difficulty starts to ramp up as you progress. Maybe it will and maybe it won't.

But yeah, it's definitely ugly and it definitely has terrible, terrible writing.

Stranger of Paradise seems astonishingly bad... I'm a big fan of Nioh and liked that first demo back in June, but when I played this new demo the game actually seemed to have regressed from where it was at E3, IMO. I had the game pre-ordered, but canceled it. I'll probably still pick it up down the line, but I'll wait for a half-off sale.

Maybe the craziest part of the portion they showed is when the three guys get together for the first time, and then it cuts to black text that said they needed to first "prove themselves by slaying several infamous monsters..." and then "Several weeks have passed since that day... Now, our three heroes return triumphant, their quest complete." I mean... fucking seriously? None of that is playable? Why the hell did you even bother saying it, then? Talk about next-level terrible writing. There's some "so bad it's good" to be had from it, I suppose, but mostly it just seems bad, period.
