[3DO] had one of the best ports of Street Fighter II at the time
The only home port of SSF2T for a while there (well, there was also the DOS version, if you had a new enough PC for it). I'm still annoyed at Capcom for never porting it to the SNES. They bizarrely came back a couple years later and ported SF Alpha 2 (even paying for a special compression chip), but no, they couldn't port Super Turbo.
Ahem. Anyway, congrats. And it figures the game would end in the most 2013 way possible: A lame QTE segment.
@tolkoto: Is this a bad time to mention how the energy mechanic worked? You spend the blue bar on those special attacks, and use the named combos to refill it. Also the cheat mode started you at the top exp level and gave all weapons and max ammo. You know, for when you get the urge to replay it. Aaaaaaany day now. :)
@guardingnome: Because it's supposed to be fun to discuss how different people sort the various games.
I'm also sad to hear about Mimimi's impending closure. Rorie randomly showing Shadow Tactics off on UPF is what got me into those overhead group stealth games. The team was clearly inspired by Desperados, so I was happy for them when they got to go full circle and make Desperados III.
@frankiebeanz: There's a temporary fix. Scroll down, click the "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" link, enable Performance Cookies, and reload. Unfortunately, for me it only seems to stick for about 24 hours before I have to enable it again.
You were on the right path when you mentioned the manual. It's key to understanding what's going on in this game. It does indeed explain the powers, the proper technique to escape the pits, and some less obvious mechanics. For example, you can eat the Reese's Pieces for energy, or call Elliott to trade them to him for more energy or even one of the phone pieces so you don't have to get them all yourself.
Looking back, I only gave it a chance because I was a little kid with no concept of good vs bad games, and luckily we still had the manual. It's hard to disagree with your review, but I'm glad I was in just the right circumstances to enjoy it.
Also, Grubb's devious little side-eyes around 26:50. He knows what he did.
@daavpuke: @chronobound: Not to break kayfabe (sorry) here, but check out the March Discord Q&A. Dan wouldn't do it if Mike genuinely had an issue with it. Just some harmless ribbing between friends.
